Simple and Member Friendly way to get members involved and generate traffic...

vb.org Hacks to make this process easier:

Referral Stats Hack -
Gives members a page to check thier progress and gives each user a referral link to use, so those referred dont have to enter the referrers name in the box

Duplicate Ip Hack -
So you can easily track down cheaters registering multiple accounts and referring themselves via the admincp


Make a announcement letting members know about the contest. State some simple guidelines and maybe a cash prize, award or some other incentive


We hold these monthly on www.rapexclusive.com/forums and members tend to take a great deal of interest in participating (especially with $ prize)

I'm not sure I understand how this works or what hack you are suggesting to use. Could you provide a few more details? Please?

Basically members going out and recruting others...

This works by making a announcement to your members that your having a referral contest...A referral is when a member bring another person to your site. when that person registers there is a referral box where they can enter the person's who told them about the site name

with the Top Referral Stats Hack it gives each user a specific referral ID to give to other people when tellin them to sign up so people dont have to waste time fillin in the box. And also displays all the top referrers on a seperate page usually linked from the navbar

the Duplicate Ip hack allows you to easily track people cheating. (ex. when members register another account just to get a referral.)

Works alot better when offering a incentive like $$

Downsides of course that also needs considering are;

(1) getting members to your forums who post nothing, and therfore add little or no value to them, and
(2) danger of your forum members spamming other boards in an attempt to get members to your boards... remember that in life - what goes around comes around. This can have a negative effect on your forum and thus totally the opposite of what you set out to achieve will ensue.

You are best looking for members who you feel would have an interest in your subject matter.

Yes you take those risks that Musicman has mentioned, But we've been up for 1 month and already got 1200+ members,

Member Referrals = 400+ of those members

Not saying this will work for all sites, but for some it does seem to have a positive effect.

But as music said u will get members that go spam other forums, we simply eliminate those that get caught doing so, from the contest itself

Ok I've got 700 users of which 150 are hard core. Three competing forums with lots of people not on mine. I started a referral contest. Three cash prizes $100, $75 and $50. The contest is a week old and not one referral!!!!! How do I light a fire under these members??? eFilmForum.com

I know this thread is about 5 days old, but I am interested in conducting a contest of this sort too. I have just 100 members in less than 3 weeks in a niche forum (flooring related). I thought about contacting distributors or other online vendors to see if they would sponsor the prizes. It would be advertising for them and support for the forums.

Maybe I'll check out the hacks mentioned above. Anyone know why the links weren't supplied, or is that against the rules?
