Hello everyone,
I was wondering at what point do you prune inactive members or do you not bother. For example, a member has a join date of 03-04-05 and has zero post or logins. Is it time to remove the user since they obviously are not an active member in the forum?
Just wondering what you guys do or might due. I am considering pruning members with inactivity > 9 months.
Is there a general guideline or time frame...thanks

I have decided to go with a one year policy. So I added a note to our TOS that member accounts will be removed if account is inactive for more then one year. I guess if you simply just want to increase the members stats that's okay too. I personaly would rather have stats that truly reflect active members then just a huge username list.

I have a 15-day policy. If someone registers on our site, and has a 0 post count after 15 days, their account is deleted. We're not as interested in the # of members, as we are in interaction among members and involvement in the forum.

I agree - We're not as interested in the # of members, as we are in interaction among members and involvement in the forum.
That's more on the lines of what I was thinking. There has to be a cut off point somewhere if you really care about your community.:)

I have only ever deleted 38 out of 12000 because I can still send them details of things that might tempt them back in again

then I certainly wouldn't let people stay on my members list for a year without posting... but that's just me.

that's true, but my view is that if they were interested, you shouldn't have to tempt them back in. I say go after new members, let the hangers-on's go.

We create another user group for old and new and then you can contact them sep ... ;)

I don't bother pruning. Sure on one hand they aren't posting, but it is a contact point. If the number started getting huge to the point where it started to take up HD space then I might consider it. But I figure the more you have the better. maybe one of the weekly Newsletters will catch their eye and they will become active again if you pruned them then you wouldn't have that chance.
