ban an IP addressPeggy 02-13-2006, 10:26 AM HOW do you ban an IP address in the acp?? noppid 02-13-2006, 10:33 AM vBulletin Options --> User Banning Options. theMusicMan 02-13-2006, 10:34 AM Hi Peggy.... here you go... AdminCP > vBulletin Options > User Banning Options > Banned IP Addresses EDIT: oops... Greg beat me to it... Peggy 02-13-2006, 10:46 AM I'm in tears and completely upset at having to do this... two members ganged up on me in the forum today and I'm devastated thank you both theMusicMan 02-13-2006, 11:51 AM Sorry to hear that Peggy, but unfortunately from time to time, as forum owners and admins we have to take the rough with the smooth and we all get these issues to deal with. Not pleasant I appreciate but they are par for the course I'm afraid. Just keep positive... you are doing a great job on your forums and remember... though you try to, you simply can't please all the people all the time. Peggy 02-14-2006, 07:45 PM *SIGH*... I received an email tonight from a friend at another adult site I am a member of... and because of the ban I had to do the other day, some people are very upset. This lady that I banned is telling people that I was reading members' private messages as well as a bunch of other lies. The email gave me specific post links on the other site and I was able to read, for myself, not only specific threats against my site, but also threats of physical harm against myself and my son. My god... my hand isthisfar from picking up the phone to the police. I've been crying for hours. btw... can you read members' private messages?? theMusicMan 02-15-2006, 02:15 AM Read PM's: Only by writing a query that interragates the MySQL database or by installing a hack that is available on vb.org. Do you have a Privacy Policy Peggy? If not, it might be a good time to get one and make an announcement on your forums about it. Feel free to totally plagiarise mine if you want it. I have one on http://www.defuturo.com/index.php?page=privacy and http://www.themouthpiece.com/index.php?&page=privacy. Be my guest...:) CupraSi 02-15-2006, 03:47 AM Sorry to hear this .... I get one of these a week now and its never good but you have to act for the majority and not the minority You will often find that they go onto other forums and slate you and thats people and the internet .. too chicken to do anything else .. I have a section at the top of my forum that has things like what you can say in PM's etc etc and we dont get much abuse .. you can always set up a user group where they have no PM's gprime 02-15-2006, 01:29 PM You ought not worry. Threats like that are idol and tend to be more of an immediate emotional response to something (such as a ban) rather than something they mean and would implement. Either way, you need to be more careful about protecting your private info. What do I mean? I mean you need to add whois privacy. The best way to do that is registar the .com of current name (which is still available) with a registrar who offers whois privacy (http://www.dynadot.com/), then change you vbulletin.com licensing info accordingly, and dump the .net domain. As to the question of reading PMs, if you'd like the option, then you must install this hack (http://www.vbulletin.org/forum/showthread.php?t=91369). Now, you need to remember that the problem members can return via proxy. But to help reduce the risk of that being an issue, I'd recommend you install the Open Proxy Blocker (http://www.vbulletin.org/forum/showthread.php?t=96318) hack. I hope everything is fine in the end, as I'm certain it will be. If you need help, just ask. Peggy 02-15-2006, 03:47 PM thank you for all the support everyone | |
