How Much Time to Allow

Ladies, Gentlemen, err ... and others
Hi all

I have squillions of questions I would like to ask, but there are just two burning issues for me at the moment.

How much time would you allow before deciding whether your BB was a success, and how would you gauge it? Are 'hits' the best measure, or 'visits, or 'sessions' ... whatever?

On the stats, my new site seems to be doing very well in terms of hits. But not many members. Just 20 odd so far (in 3 weeks).

I'm wondering if it's the site or just pure lack of interest. Perhaps a combination of both.

Would really appreciate some guidance if possible.

Regards

People have to be able to find you to get traffic. You need to get other sites to link to you.

Once they get there, your forum needs at least you to keep a conversation going.

With money invested in marketing, you can grow fast. If you want to build by word of mouth, give it at least 3 years.

Hi Noppid

Thanks for the fast feedback. I appreciate that.

I've had about 40,000 'hits' and got just 20 odd members. Not sure whether the 'hits' actually mean much.

I take it that your experience has been that you need to be available on the site yourself as much as possible. That's a bit of a problem for me. But thanks for the advice. Three years - phew. That must be like watching grass grow!

It really can be! Someone has to be there to keep it moving though. There needs to be incentive to post.

Hits are the number of times the server sent a file. A page view can generate multiple hits.

Look for Unique visitors.

Thanks a lot noppid, I had a feeling that 'hits' means not a lot.

I note that you can help with code and modifying. I'll get in touch with you again later, if I may. I'm planning on moving my BB to join a far more successful website on my US server (the BB is on a UK server at present). I would like my next attempt to be a lot more 'professional'.

Best wishes
