View Full Version : Is there an echo?

wow, this site has diminished to very little traffic, but it was always so busy when I joined it just a few months ago. I'd really hate to see this place go the way of the forum ghosts. It's got a good target audience and talented people...

WAKE UP Y'ALL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I've thought this too...

there are some great articles here, and good SEO info,, hate to see it go to waste...

Forums have to be consistantly promoted to remain active. IF neglected they can easily die.

The new owner is getting his feet wet still.

all I know is I hope this site doesn't die... but it doesn't seem like much is going on... including promoting.

Where was I when that happened? Why didn't I bid on it? Was I sleeping? Drunk and passed out, perhaps?

Peggy

don't know why you didn't hun... I don't think it was public knowledge that the sale was going to happen.
drunk and passed out? a distinct possibility, LOL

Hello Everyone,

I initially introduced (http://www.vbwebmaster.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1895) myself a couple of weeks ago.

wow, this site has diminished to very little trafficYeah that's true but please be assured the site is in good hands and the activity will rebound in time. I made a few decisions/changes which may be affecting traffic but it will rebound I'm sure.

Joeychgo and others here have dedicated allot of their time to make this community as successful as informative as it is today. So I have full intensions of carrying it forward.

Thanks for the concerns but it will be okay...I myself wonder at times why 200 people can be on the forum at once and no one raises a question or makes a post. I guess that's a compliment to the membership here that the forums post are enchanting or good reading. ;)

But I am sure every forum admin feels like saying:
WAKE UP Y'ALL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ~ Ohiosweetheart - It looks like you got a few people talking

Peggy

well I do try... thanks VBW. I can't stand the thoughts of this site going down. It seems like Best-Boards has gotten busier while this site has been sliding. But since this site is dedicated solely to vBulletin, I spend most of my time here.

If there's ANYTHING I can do to help... please contact me. I'm all yours! ;)

Hi Ohiosweetheart et al

I'm a new chum with a couple of sites (one a vB BB) just online for three weeks. I am wondering how you assess a site as quiet or 'moving pretty fast'?

My stats look pretty good - lots of visits and many thousands of hits but only 24 or 25 members so far. When I am on the BB it sometimes feels kinda lonely - and there does seem to be an echo. Sometimes its just me and a Googlebot. In fact, I think the bots spend more time on the BB than I do!

Can you give me some idea of your own experiences when you first started please?

Late Note: I just took a look at your site Ohiosweetheart. It was doing very well, but then it is a bit different in nature to mine, which is more than a bit controversial. I was tempted to register and participate but my wife would shoot me if she found out! Just kidding. Fantastic colour scheme and nice layout too, by the way. Soft, smooth and slinky - totally in keeping with the site's content I imagine. Very well done.

Best wishes

LOL... thank you for the compliments SB. I don't believe it's a good idea to join sites like mine without the partners knowledge. But that's a decision that everyone has to make on their own. Keep in mind tho, that my site is NOT a porn site... it's a tasteful adult community.
As far as how do you tell if you have a busy site or not.... well, mine wasn't always a 'mover', but it sure is now! You see, I keep my membership pruned. We don't allow inactive members to stay very long. If someone signs up and hasn't posted once in the first 15 days of members... they're out. I am not nearly as interested in the amount of members I have, as I am in the involvement of the members I have. It's the quality vs quantity thingee. ;)

btw, what kind of site do you have? Can you leave a link so we can take a peek??

Yes, I could see it was nothing remotely like a porn site. ;) It seemed very tasteful indeed. smooth and professional - and very feminine, if I may say so without offending. :o

I think it would be a little easier to make yours into a 'shaker' and 'mover' than mine, Ohiosweetheart. Nudge, nudge, wink, wink ... say no more.

Like you, I would gauge success to some extent on the quality rather than quantity of content. But I try to keep in mind that 'even the dull & ignorant have their stories to tell' (Deciderata, wasn't it?)

I like this great idea of yours in getting rid of redundant watchers. They do make me feel a little uncomfortable. Mind you, so do the crawler 'bots'. I was worried about just one crawling all over 'me' - until I noticed that this site has almost a hundred, mostly Yahoo Spiders, crawling through it - it's a bit creepy, isn't it?

My sites are a little unusual, really. Neither is commercial, though I wouldn't mind making a few quid to pay for the outlay. One is almost, but not really, a blog. Mainly about two court cases I've run against a UK university. Loads of media attention. That's far from finished yet. The other is an Education Issues BB. :D

Although I'm new at this, I am having a lot of fun - and losing a lot of sleep. What the heck, I've got nothing better to do these days anyway. And I've had quite amazing figures so far. Yes, please do take a peep whenever you wish. I'd be honoured. Please do let me know what you think of my first attempts. Im building the static site on Dreamweaver 8 - steep learning curve for a retired pilot become mature law student.

The static site is at: http://www.educationissues.net
The BB is at: http://www.education-issues.org

All the best for now.

Kindest regards

SB :o

LOL... my site isn't as "feminine" as it used to be! In fact we have more men there now than ladies, and the guys are the ones who "okayed" the style that we use as the default style.... the brown colors, with the couple kissing, in the header. That was custom made for us by a lady in Scotland, then re-worked for us when we changed from phpbb to vB software.

I'll take a look at yours and let you know what I think. *wink*

The best way to get activity is to get linked to other sites and then word of mouth will follow ... my biggest number of members come from people who have been told about it on another site .... when mine started in 2002 I had 50 odd members and now has 12600 and is the largest of its kind in the world and all because I built up relations with other websites etc etc

Good luck

Thank you, CupraSi. That's about the most helpful advice I've received on that subject. I am grateful to you (don't care much for that car, though :D ).

unfortunately, if you have a site that has adult content, many sites won't let you link to it in your signature. They let me here, so far... but they wouldn't let me at TAZ and other sites.

EDITED... um, looks like I may not be permitted to link to it here either? :(
