I purchased a lease on Vbulletin for a year, and I was wondering if this is a good deal or not. I didnt want to pay a whole license fee right away, but in a year i figure if the site makes enough money another 80 bucks won't be a huge deal. Does anyone else lease?

I have both -
In some cases it may take a year to build/promote your forum so I prefer the owned.
-$160: Owned License. (
terms: You may run the software forever. You have access to any upgrades or new versions for the first year. After that one year you have the option to pay (currently) $30 for a additional year of access to the member's area to continue getting new versions/upgrades.
-$85: Leased License. (
terms: You may run the software for 1 year after which you must renew (or buy an owned license) to keep using it, and you have access to any upgrades or new versions during this year. If you do not renew you must remove vbulletin from your site.
For either you are paying for the rights to run the software/scripts on your website and not the ownership of the software itself. Go for whichever suits your wallet. If you are using the leased version you are getting the exact same vb software there's no difference.

Thanks for this info, now I have an idea how much it costs to have a vb site.
