Is there a book available for this kind of stuff we do to VB?

Most times you need to name the new header the same as the old one. That way no editing is needed anywhere. When you do need to change the name of the header, you do that in your varstyles. Go to your aCP --->> styles and templates --->> style manager --->> StyleVars

in there, scroll down to the image paths section, and beside title image, change the name of the header to whatever you have named it .jpg or .gif or whatever, and save. Upload the header image, via FTP, to the images directory, and most likely the misc folder, if that's where the old one is/was

Hope this helps

But I must be missing an important part of the banner because it did work ..... Kinda.
Because I did change it but it was just plain text & so then I went back to a pic of the one I was running & copied its addy & reinstalled it & it did work.....
So I'll have it fixed soon ..:D

Thank you SOOOO much again sweety!

FTP is on your server right? Its not in the ACP.....(so new to this)

Can someone recommend a REALLY good Vbulletin book to go over some basics.

the FTP is your server, you use a FTP client to load files to your server (FTP), so load your header to your server in hte images folder usually. then go into your admin control panel, go on the left side where it says style and templates, go to edit the template you want to add the header too, in the header box you will see code, towards the top of the code you will see your header images' URL, replace that with the url to the new header you loaded and save. and you should be all set.

Download the Manual for your version of vBulletin from here: http://www.vbulletin.com/docs/

Save it to your desktop or somewhere else it's handy. You'll be amazed at how much information is in there. :)

That banner is 646k  My first suggestion would be to drop the animation and just use a static .jpeg. The file size will be much smaller.

Or you could download a GIF compressor. Here is one I found: http://www.creabit.com/gifcompressor/

I cannot install it because I don't run windows.. let me know how it works out.

Ill look into that. What is the problem with it being large?

minstrel

It takes way too long to load. It's not the overall length and width dimensions that's the biggest problem (although that may screw up the display at different display resolutions - always design for 800 x 600 when it comes to logos) - the biggest problem is thje file size and yours is ginormous!

i made it for him and didnt think it was too big, ill take a look at it and slim it down some since you all think its such a big deal.

Actually, I'm just jealous that you've got the kind of bandwidth that you don't even notice.

It's too wide.

It stretches way past the rest of the forum at 800 x 600 - looks ugly.

Clarification: I don't mean your banner is ugly. I mean the fact that it stretches past the rest of the page at 800 x 600 looks ugly.

Minstrel what would you suggest be a acceptale banner size? I made this one and if you guys think i/he should size it down let me know.....not trying to remake it a bunch of times you know?

i have the fullsize animation down to about 450k now......with minimal quality loss...

minstrel

I would suggest resizing it down to no more than 780 px wide, centered. That displays well in 800 x 600 without stretching or sidescrolling and also looks good at higher resolutions.
