To allow or not allow avatars

Do you allow avatars on your forum. It seems okay but does it effect your database performance when it grows to the xx,xxx amount of members? Backup time etc.

Yes, members love um. Make um like 100x100 about 15K and you should be fine.

If and when you reach xx,xxx amount of members, you won't care about the overhead. ;)

Hell yeah!! What I do is offer them to anyone who joins, at a smaller size. I also allow larger avatars fir those that have payed for a supporting membership.

yesssirrr avatars express people just like smileys! and if you wont allow them, who knows what may happen. and i agree with Noppid because its smart to keep them limited in size so your database doesnt freakin blow up :)

Avatars can be really cool especially when they are unique or funny.

Hmm. maybe avatars could be allowed only with the provision that they are unique or original? Ok, I'm silly

Just a question in general, i know it may take up space, but why would people even think of NOT allowing avatars? Its just part of the everyday forum that people would go to everyday. Without it, it would just be like a body not having a hand. Know what i mean? What do you mean by provision MHJ?

You are all right, I am also agreeable to having avatars in forums. They give life and color to the forums and moreso, just by looking at the pic, you can right away determine who the poster is, cool ! :)

I'm a member of one forum which most of the members are using their own pics for avatars. It's so cool. You get to have a face that goes with their posts.

Well... it's a school alumni forum...

Same here, Avatars are enabled on my forums, I also make them as big of space and size as possible to satisfy them. So yeah, thats a plus on that subject.
