Hey guys,

I have setup a linux hosting account with what appears to be a new hosting company. They seem to be doing fine so far with minimum issues thus far. However I now require a static ip for a development project I am working on. I am looking for an established unix/linux host that has been in operation for at least 2 years.

My requirements ;) :
PHP, Perl, Python
MySQL
SSH Access
CGI-Bin
Dedicated IP Address

Recommendations appreciated.

Linux is absolutely top notch. I'd highly recommend it as well. Please check it out.

But, HOW is linux better than windows? Just because its faster?

If you are interested in using Visual Basic or C#, then it would have to be windows. Particularly if you are using .net. If you have Visual Studio, then most windows web hosts will let you use front page extensions so that you can store your project on site. That's VERY handy as it avoids a lot of uploading.

Linux hosting is generally cheaper since the software is free. However, you can't use .net on linux hosting (unless there is some Mono hosting that I'm unaware of?)

Somehow I thought this was a linux v windows thread. Sorry. After reading the first post....

I recommend Total Choice Hosting (http://totalchoicehosting.com) for linux. The prices are reasonable, it is feature rich, and I've never had any problem with downtime.
