Upgrading to PHP 5 can possibly cause some PHP applications to stop working but many will work flawlessly. I found issues with long arrays, and mod_rewrite configurations. PHP 5 uses the Apache Action configuration directive to execute PHP 5, which means that may lead to a conflict. Check with the developer of your script with the errors your receive they may already have a work around.
