What Would YOU Do?

I had a situation today, where one of my moderators removed her posts from a thread, without permission, without warning, because another one of the mods expressed a concern, in the staff lounge, that one of the posts made in that thread by a member could be taken as a racial slur. It wasn't even directed at her... but she went haywire and said well if ***** isn't permitted then this isn't either and BAM just went and removed all her posts from that thread!

I jumped her a** in the staff lounge and told her that she abused her moderator authority by doing that and it will NOT happen again. The ONLY time a post is removed is when directed to by me or my co-admin, or if something is posted that would be blatantly detrimental to the site, and one of the admins isn't around. Then it should be moved to the holding forum only, never deleted until me or the co-admin has the chance to look at it, and then either delete or move it back.

GGGRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR she ticked me off.

so what would you do in this situation?

For one, dont let moderators remove threads. Thats ausergroup setting. Let them move, and edit, but not delete.

it wasn't a thread, just a few posts off the thread

there is a Can Delete Own Posts option also

noone has that activated. She does have the ability to delete any posts. Mods do on my site. But they aren't supposed to without express permission from either me or my co-admin and until now, noone has abused that power.

Doesn't matter now... she resigned a little while ago

Does VB not have an option to "recycle" all deletions to an admin thread? That's what I do on my forums (now using SMF). ANY thread or post deleted winds up in Quarantine and only an Admin has the necessary permissions to delete it from there.

If it happened with one Mod, it can happen with another. Best to ensure that it can't be repeated.

I'm not sure, but I turned off the delete permission in the mod usergroup. no more deleting for them

so what would you do in this situation?Nice one, Peg. I think I would do what you have already done. The expressions you use crack me up but I'll have a go:

I would "jump her a**" too. However, across the pond in Blighty, she "ticked me off" means she 'gave me a telling off'. So, I would tick her off as well. Language is just so interesting, ain't it?

I'll never forget when I first came back to England from Australia that one must not ask for a 'roll of durex' here since it confuses and makes peeps go very red in the face. In OZ, durex is just a roll of sellotape but here it is a condom. In OZ a condom used to be called a 'wetchex' in my day (that was about a hundred years ago, of course). Nasty!

I love your site, but I've been too busy on mine to get there too often. Hopefully that will change next week. I have a busy work weekend ahead
