ANNOUNCEMENT: Erwin quits as Admin at vBulletin.org

Thats right. Erwin quit as the Admin of vBulletin.org yesterday.

From reading his, and a few other posts, it seems that there is alot happening over at vB.org. The coders arent happy, the moderators seem to be hanging on by their fingernails, and now Erwin, a long standing Icon at vB.org, has quit. He posted the following:

Hi all

I've stepped down as Admin. Being an Admin on this site has become impossible - it's one thing that I have to keep consulting Jelsoft as this is their site after all, but it's another thing that as an Admin I can't even implement strategies to get things done on the site because Mods disagree with it. It's no way to run a forum site, and I've run forums with over 100 staff.

Since my hands are completely tied as an Admin on this site, there's really no point hanging around and feeling helpless, so I've just stepped down. What's the point really.

I've got better things to do (like my day job running a cancer hospital, or managing my own forums) to be stressed over something I should be enjoying as a hobby.

Thanks for having me around. It's been a great experience.

Stefan or Brad, please change my user title - I can't remove it as I've changed myself back to Licensed.

Danny.VBT has been promoted to Admin in the wake of Erwin's leaving.

vB.org also announced that they will be separating the staff into 3 separate groups: Coders, Designers, and Customer support. Each group will have it's own responsibilities. For example the coder group will work on coding new additions for the site and moderate the release forums. The designers will design and maintain a style for vBulletin.org and be responsible for moderating all design forums (graphics, template mods, styles etc.). The Customer support group will mainly deal with users, and help members whenever possible when it comes to modification requests, or posts in the site feedback forum.

Sad to know but I hope this won't have much difference at vb.org .

If things keep going as they are, it won't make a bit of difference really. They (vb.com and org admins) have been posting for the past 3 or 4 days about how they are listening and changes are being implemented. If, after all of that, Erwin felt he had to step down... I'm thinking this doesn't bode well for .org, and the "changes" will be very few, if any.

EDIT: I had a few things to say on Erwin's farewell thread.

I see problems there with both groups: staff, and developers. That severely damages two other groups: non-coders who want help using a plugin, and developers such as myself who refuse to become active there because of the mis-management. It really reminds me of Orwell's "Animal Farm".

Jelsoft owns it. Jelsoft needs to run it, as a core part of their business. They need paid staff, Jelsoft employees, as admins and mods. They need formal code review of all plugins. The code review team could be volunteers.

They need to re-organize the site as well. There are way too many sub-sections.

As of now, it looks like the inmates are running the asylum.

lol... good analogy. Right now, it sure seems like that's the case

I prefer Monkeys running the Zoo...But yeah. There are some good people involved, but if Erwin was that frustrated, Im afraid I dont see much progress coming.

Xenon says he was also close to quitting....

I want to excuse to those who got into the weels of our System. As i said, we namely Erwin, Brad and myself as Administrators during that time, are responsible, that it got that far. Everyone has to draw the consequences. I was close to resign myself, but i think the better way would be to bring vb.org back to what it was. That's why the structure of vb.org's staff will be changed deeply now.

Maybe it's just me, but the org seems to be over populated with inflated egos...I think I will go back to hanging out at WHT...at least I learn something there :-\
