View Full Version : How to Remove - Powered by vBulletin in title tag

This is one of the more common questions.

How to Remove the "- Powered by vBulletin" in page title tags

Go to your ADMINCP> Language & Phrases> Search in Phrases

In your Phrases Search for: x_powered_by_vbulletin (be sure to choose to search by Phrase Text and Phrase Variable Name)

Edit the phrase. Simply change it from {1} - Powered by vBulletin

to {1}

SO your just deleting - Powered by vBulletin

EDITED to add -
This does NOT remove the vBulletin copyright, which is in the footer template, and appears at the bottom of your forum.
This simply removes the " - powered by vBulletin" in your browser title tag.

Funnnnyyyyy? Can't find any 'Powered by vBulletin' comments on my board other than in the footer. As I understand it, it is a breach of licence terms to remove that.

Let me guess, peeps. Joey raised this as an issue in the past and the version I run no longer has that phrase anywhere other than, you guessed it, in the footer? No prizes if I'm right, no payments if I'm wrong.

Um... it's not found on your board sweets, it's in the title. Whenever you save a vBulletin site to your favorites, you see a 'powered by vBulletin' in the title. I always remove that. Now don't have to!

Peggy
03-14-2006, 08:03 PM
Joey.... when you do that search, the result is English Translation, and Standard phrase.

Search Results
GLOBAL Phrases Containing x_powered_by_vbulletin'

x_powered_by_vbulletin English (US) Translation{1} - Powered by vBulletin

x_powered_by_vbulletin Standard Phrase{1} - Powered by vBulletin

I was able to change the english translation... but not the standard phrase ?

Oh boy! It looks like I have got something right. Followed Joey's instructions and ... Voila! ... Eureka ... no more Powered by vB when adding pages to favorites.

Nice one, Joey. THANKS a million. 'Til now I've been absolutely terrified to change anything other the most simple of things - can't understand or write the code, you see.

Thanks, too, to Ohiosweetheart for explaining what the effect of this is. Hey, go easy, Peggy. I have always made it clear that I am a complete novice at this. But now learning with the generous help of you guys.

BTW, when is one of you gunna sort out this fluid header problem for me? :(

I am happy to pay a reasonable fee for services. ;)

We have sweetie. Joey's been dealing with vB for years.

The 'powered by vBulletin' in the page title is just that... a page title. What's in the footer is the copyright and cannot be removed without purchasing the right

I did the same thing, I deleted the Powered by VBulletin at the bottom. I deleted what was there previously and typed {1} in its place. Google searches still say my site is powered by VBulletin.

Have I done something wrong?

ps - I want to comply with the VBulletin licensing terms, so any advice that gets rid of the tag but also complies would be helpful. Also, can you please email me at allegation@gmail.com? Thanks

YES you did do something wrong. You can't remove the vBulletin copyright at the bottom of your forum unless you paid to remove it.

Read the instructions in the first post of this thread again, very carefully. You're not removing the copyright at the bottom of the forum, you're removing the - Powered by vBulletin in the browser tag at the TOP of your browser.

Try this:

towards the bottom of the footer template (right after the links in the footer) add:

<!-- Do not remove this copyright notice -->
$vbphrase[powered_by_vbulletin]
<!-- Do not remove this copyright notice -->

as long as you havent removed the above phrase, it should show up

The powered by vBulletin that this thread is talking about is in the title tag at the top of your browser window. That's not a copyright, only the one at the bottom is. I'm only mentioning that so that noone gets confused and thinks that the two are one and the same.

Are you the only one that edits anything on your templates? Because if the copyright code is there in the template as shown above, then someone has edited the copyright text in your phrases, in order to delete the copyright.

Hi Peggy

Yes, I am the only one who has editted it so far. I successfully deleted the 'Powered by VBulletin" so that when Google returns my Forum name, it no longer states that. Unfortunately I also deleted, accidentally, the copyright that is supposed to be in the footer.

I would like to return the copyright to the footer, and I would also like to add my own customized legal disclaimer in that area under the VB copyright, similiar to the one at the bottom of this page.

"vBulletin-FAQ is not an official Jelsoft website and is not associated with Jelsoft. All information, images and content contained within this site is Copyright 2006 vBulletin-FAQ and may not be reproduced without written permission"

Does anyone know how I could go about doing that?

AO

Peggy

Go into your acp and go the edit templates in the style manager, and open your footer template. Forget the common templates thingee... open the footer template itself.

look at that code and look at the code above and make sure that the copyright code is there. You can place your disclaimer either above or below it.

You can also insert custom copyright information from within the Admin CP.

Admin CP > vBulletin Options > Site Name / URL / Contact Details > Copyright Text

Add your copyright information and click Save.

Simply change it from {1} - Powered by vBulletin

to {1}

SO your just deleting - Powered by vBulletin

instead of just deleting "- Powered by vBulletin"
add a short simple phrase that possibly describes your site like I did here
http://www.worldclassbodybuilding.com/forums/index.php
along with the name of my site. I described it.
World Class Bodybuilding - Powerlifting and fitness site

Just select an image using the browse button there, and follow the instructions.

tip - the smaller the image you use, the better, clearer, it will look.

Hi. I'm new to this and have a few questions...I have Version 3.7.1

I went to admincp, then Languages & Phrases, then Search In Phrases and searched for "x_powered_by_vbulletin". I also made sure "Phrase Text and Phrase Variable Name" was clicked.

I received two responses:

The first was "English (US) Translation". So I clicked on EDIT, then clicked on "copy default text", and CHANGED it to {1} . Now, when I go back in the {1} is still there.

The second was "Standard Phrase". So I clicked on EDIT, then clicked on "copy default text" and CHANGED it to {1}. The name of my SITE was listed here, and now for some reason it displays : "{1} - Powered by vBulletin" Even after I've deleted the "Powered by vBulletin". Should MY site name be placed in this one???

And finally, if I go back into "Search In Phrases" and search for "x_powered_by_vbulletin", I still am getting results from my search? See the attached thumbnail.

Thank you in advance for your support.

Tomc.

That looks just fine. If you have a look at the settings for what you are searching, you'll see why you are getting those results ;)

Thanks! I am a little confused regarding the Standard Phrase. I believe that had my site name in it...and now it has "{1} - Powered by vBulletin" is this ok?

Thank you, I think I did it. How would I know for sure?

Also, is it possible to replace the phrase with something of your own?

Do you see it in your browser's title bar, when you visit your forums? If not, then you did it.

I prefer not trying to pad anything into the title tag. I've even gone so far as to remove the forum name ( $vboptions[bbtitle] ) from the forumdisplay and showthread pages on my sites. I don't know if it is making much difference, but if it gives me a bit more thread title relevancy, I'll gladly take it.

Go to your ADMINCP> Language & Phrases> Search in Phrases

In your Phrases Search for: x_powered_by_vbulletin (be sure to choose to search by Phrase Text and Phrase Variable Name)

Edit the phrase. Simply change it from {1} - Powered by vBulletin

to {1}

I must have done something wrong. I did this, but after I running my forum through one of the free SEO tools out there and it told me I have no Title. I see no place in the Admin Control Center to add Title. Are these things related?

IN the admin cp, go to vBulletin Options > Site Name / URL / Contact Details.

Be sure that the name of your site is there.

I made a rookie mistake and changed {1} - Powered by vBulletin to {1} Dealer Internet Ups, the name of my forum. Now it displays "1="Dealer Internet Ups">%1$s" above the logo. When I do the same search for the new phrase it doesn't find it anywhere. Any ideas?

I checked and I found out and remembered that I had followed these instructions and had removed the powered by vbulletin awhile ago, but what about the domain.com at the end of the title? How to remove it? Thank you for your time guys.

Not having any access to a vB Admin CP any longer , I'm working from memory. Check your vB options under something like site name. It will be one of the first few options on the list.
