Hello -

Over the years of web design I have had many request where php/mysql was needed to accomplish a clients wishes. (Which in many cases I had to go learn myself) So I launched a new forum to help old clients, new clients, visitors to enable them to take control of modifying or improving their own sites.

Hope it's successful - Thought I could pick up some pointers from some of the experienced people on this forum to get things active or improve the forum.

Thanks for looking - PHP MySQL Forum (http://www.phpmysqlforum.com/index.php)

Nice kayla,

I like your color choices and your forum status icons gave me a good chuckle :) The only thing that stood out to me was a minor display error with the collapse_tcat.gif image. It seems to be floating outside the category cell in Firefox

That and your ad banner -- check it out at 800 x 600 - everything else on the forum fits to window and all you can see of the banner is the right corner.

Interesting point minstrel... Not to take this thread off topic, but does anyone obey the 800x600 rule anymore? By polling my members, I've found that most north american users use 1024x768 or higher. I've personally abandoned coding for low resolutions... it leaves too much white space when expanded to fullscreen.

I am a so-called baby boomer and there are a lot of us out there who are using 800 x 600 because of increasing visual issues (reading glasses, etc.). Add to that the fact (and it is a fact) that there are still on the order of 40% of visitors to the average website using 800 x 600 and it is, in my opinion, a grave error to code for higher resolutions.

Some points to consider:

if you code for 800 x 600, those using higher resolutions can still read the page comfortably without side-scrolling
if you use a higher page resolution as standard, people viewing it at 800 x 600 will leave in droves - do you want to lose those customers?
even for people who use higher resolutions, many like to browse in wondows rather than full screen - why annoy them?
