Noppid 09-06-2006, 03:38 PM I'm thinking that I could have voted for this already...I can't remember though.
You would be told if you already voted. Your DH needs to add the email you registered with to the vBulletin license. (If that is allowed) Or you may have to vote under the account your vB License was purchased under.
Darwa 09-06-2006, 04:17 PM I voted :)

OK I was able to vote with DH's account. We have two emails under our vb account so I'm not sure why mine doesn't work.
friscogal 09-06-2006, 10:38 PM Hi Everyone!!
thanks for all your votes. even though i do not have the 20 that is usually needed to get stuff done, all the votes that came so quickly brought mxboard to the attention of the person who handles the conversion stuff and he said he was going to "see what he can do"...so that is a positive thing.
thanks again, i am so grateful!!
Tammy, I took a look at your MXboard by the way (love your wedding pics), but it confused me. I hope you get to transfer everybody from over there over to vBulletin. Good luck!

I don't have complainers, but very opinionated members. I love them all regardless.
Banning mods? Wow...I don't think I could ever ban or demote a mod. Too much drama.

LOLOL
there were 4 of us...and i had to ban 2 of them...they went all crazy and power hungry and were deleting posts left and right for no reason. we started the forum because we were in a womens forum and the owners decided to prune members they did not want in the forum anymore...instead of just saying "hey we are moving this forum in a diff. direction" they claimed to close the forum for financial reasons but secretly they were inviting girls they wanted via email. i got an invite and joined but was really annoyed but what i saw...women at their cattiest! so i resigned and told them they were lame losers and needed to get a life.
and started this new forum with the girls that were not invited...well, 2 members (also mods-they were the main reason the first forum got closed) decided to copy and paste what our members were saying about their private life and tell the old forum owners/mods hoping this would get them an invite into the forum they were not wanted in...
i found out and banned them...they were sad and pathetic people.

My mods don't have the ability to delete anything or edit posts. They can move it and either 4 of us (Admins) can edit or delete. Deleting posts scares me. :o
Also, on MXboard can you take away deleting rights or does it come with the Mod group?

I like that idea, I think I'll use that on my new board. Sometimes mods are a nessecary evil (don't take that the wrong way). As admins we need people who can take care of things when we aren't around but at the same time no two people have the same point of view so things get hairy sometimes.
For the most part I'm happy with my mods the only thing I constantly b%$ch about is pruning the shoutbox. I switched back to the vb.org verison which uses the database. I say prune the shoutbox regularally to cut down on db calls. All excessive db calls do is slow down the entire server. Yet almost everytime I sign on I see a boatload of shouts from hours ago and 90% of them are from the mods who have can /prune. .. I just don't get it.
Other than that I don't bother anyone, I have a policy of no moderation unless it's a personal attack or spam. :)

I don't get the purpose of a shoutbox. Seriously...what is the purpose when you can just start a thread, right?

And we have a three page Word Document of moderation rules...:p And all of them are needed. We add to it periodically as well. You never know what may happen.

In a sense yes. :) I like it because it it adds even more interactivity to the site and it's nice to be able to briefly chat with someone.
Being a DJ forum sometimes someone needs the artist of a song quickly. Rather than starting a thread and waiting for someone to search new posts he/she just ask in the shoutbox whoever is online will help if they can.
For the same reason, I also added the SigmaChat hack from the .org. We go in their for extended convos & eventually we'll have theme discussions. Say monday is music Q&A where the music moderator will be online and available to answer questions.
Once I even temporarily closed the shoutbox and chatroom to registered users and used it to chat the forum staff.

OK this is how the shoutbox can benefit B2W...right now staff have about 8k in posts in private which is unnecessary. Thanks for the tip Danny!
Peggy 09-12-2006, 03:24 PM we use our shoutbox as a "stop-off" on the way to the threads. People come in, say good morning, hi, howdy, hello, whatever, maybe chat a little bit, then head out to the threads.
It doesn't take the place of the threads, but it's another way to communicate on the site, especially when one needs an answer quickly
Hell³ 09-12-2006, 03:46 PM Sometimes mods are a nessecary evil (don't take that the wrong way). Of course I can take that the wrong way, you know, it's spelled wrong and all... (J/K)

I don't like shoutboxes. I really don't.
But... the three page rulebook of d00m, that gives me the hint of NEVER start a bridal/wedding related forum. EVAH!!!!111

i had to change it so nobody could delete...not even me...to delete i had to log in as the host and most the time i was just logged in as me..
i learned that the hard way...they went delete crazy and i don't think you should delete except in extreme curcumstances.

i was able to put a chat on my mxbard...it was pretty esy and us mods would have pow-wows sometimes...
we have like 2-3 rules on our forums...
1. be nice/respectful
2. if you are a vendor, no spamming or aggressively soliciting people
3. on the private girls forum ONLY, no copying/pasting private info and what is mentioned in the forum, stays in the forum

Cool, when/if you install just ban all usergroups except admins/mods then set banned usergroups to "cannot view shoutbox". Regular members won't even know it's there.
PS: Anyone notice the ads for this thread all about fireiing employees. LOL
friscogal 09-12-2006, 08:28 PM I voted for ya!
thanks lilmo!
