WoodiE55 09-13-2006, 09:37 AM Awww this job is a never ending job.
Darwa 09-13-2006, 09:46 AM Upgraded with no trouble :)
minstrel 09-13-2006, 10:08 AM This will be my first vBulletin upgrade.
Does this mean I have to redo customizations and reinstall plugins?
minstrel 09-13-2006, 10:40 AM Also, what is the "XML only" versus "Complete Package" option about?
Whew, I'm glad this happened before my scheduled upgrade. Thanks Joey!
Big Dan 09-13-2006, 11:05 AM Minstrel,
I'm pretty sure the XML only is just the settings files. I always download the complete package and unzip server side.
My new forum is upgraded. It was a snap. I'm going to wait a couple of days for the other one because of all the template mods I've done.
Peggy 09-13-2006, 12:03 PM Also, what is the "XML only" versus "Complete Package" option about?
You need the package minus the images, Min.
minstrel 09-13-2006, 04:17 PM And do I need to redo the customizations after upgrading? I'm using the default theme/skin at this point, in case that makes a difference.
Peggy 09-13-2006, 05:06 PM Nope. After you've upgraded, when it gets to the part where it tells you that you have x number of templates to revert, click edit rather than revert, then save. That's all.
There are no template changes in this upgrade, only bug fixes and nothing to do with the templates.
minstrel 09-13-2006, 05:18 PM Ah, cool! :D
Thanks, Peg!!
Peggy 09-13-2006, 06:06 PM You're welcome. I love it when an upgrade is easy like this one
WoodiE55 09-13-2006, 06:44 PM You're welcome. I love it when an upgrade is easy like this one
I agree, this has got to be the easiet upgrade I've done!
Peggy 09-13-2006, 07:11 PM I went back and looked at the release notes at .com again, and there are a few templates that require reverting, only if you have an option enabled.
For example
search_forums
Added image verification for guests.
Requires Revert? Yes, if this option is enabled
The following templates do need reverting due to bug fixes:
threadadmin_movethread
threadadmin_movethreads
threadadmin_mergethread
threadadmin_mergethreads
imagereg
userinfraction
userinfractionbit
editpost
newthread
minstrel I can't think of any hacks that you've installed that have anything to do with any of these templates so you can just revert them, unless you know of any of these that were edited.
There were quite a few template changes, but the release thread said they didn't need reverting, so it's still a very easy upgrade.
Hell³ 09-13-2006, 08:01 PM 3 days before I need to renew the member area access, w00t!
Peggy 09-13-2006, 08:14 PM lol
Big Dan 09-13-2006, 08:28 PM Nope. After you've upgraded, when it gets to the part where it tells you that you have x number of templates to revert, click edit rather than revert, then save. That's all.

Now you tell me..
I spent most of the day modding in Chris's DaBluz because I got all kinds of errors on upgrade with the DJ-Red skin so I deleted it.
Then I installed in on my newly created test board and all I had to revert was the navbar template.. Originally all the errors were because I had heavily customized the original template.
I reinstalled the red template and modded everything back the way it was and my members are happy now.
So basically I spent all day doing template edits doing for nothing but adding a style most of my members complained about
At least it was a learning experince. :p
Peggy 09-13-2006, 08:42 PM oh my, lol. Well I backtracked a bit up there ^. There are some templates that need reverting, but none of them, I don't think, are edited, with the hacks that I'm familiar with.
friscogal 09-15-2006, 09:39 PM peggy, i just did the upgrade and held my breath the entire time after my merge fiasco...my forum looks ok...do you think i need to do anything else to make sure? run any tests?
Peggy 09-15-2006, 09:59 PM if your hacks all work ok, then you're good to go
friscogal 09-15-2006, 10:12 PM if your hacks all work ok, then you're good to go
ok, you are forcing me back into the arcade....my sister isnt even a part of the forum and signed up just to play pacman at work:)
Peggy 09-15-2006, 10:14 PM lol
minstrel 09-17-2006, 01:21 PM After I upgrade to 3.61, should the install directory be deleted? Is there a security issue with NOT deleting it? Will anything break if it IS deleted?
Hell³ 09-17-2006, 01:44 PM you can safely delete it, but actually the only security concerns could be the upgrade.php or install.php scripts.
minstrel 09-17-2006, 01:51 PM OK. Thanks! :)
minstrel 09-17-2006, 02:38 PM Actually, see http://www.vbulletin.com/forum/showpost.php?p=1214166&postcount=191
Hell³ 09-17-2006, 02:47 PM ah, I haven't taken that into account, good find. I'll re-upload stuff later
Peggy 09-17-2006, 02:58 PM Yup when I upgrade, I delete the install.php before I even upload the install folder.
minstrel 09-18-2006, 01:14 PM I just noticed that vbulletin-faq is still running 3.60... how come?
Peggy 09-18-2006, 02:17 PM Cuz Joey's been offline dealing with real life... ooops. 'scuse me.... "offline life" ;)
Noppid 09-18-2006, 03:40 PM With two of us hacking this board, it needs to be a joint effort anyway.
He'll be back soon.
Cuz Joey's been offline dealing with real life... ooops. 'scuse me.... "offline life" ;)
