Elsie 09-14-2006, 12:58 AM How do you set it up so that there is an automatic space under a quote in a post, as you have it here?
I'm assuming it's either a <br /> or a <p>, but where does it go?
Thanks in advance! :)
minstrel 09-14-2006, 07:09 AM I'm not sure I understand the question, Elsie. I think this is the default behavior in vBulletin.

Yup, this is pretty much the default space.
But you can tweak the fieldset class in your main css, and add a padding-bottom property in the extra css definitions of that class.
Elsie 09-14-2006, 02:21 PM it's actually within the reply box that i'm talking about..... see pics.
here, when you quote someone and click into the text box it automatically drops the cursor down a line (image 1), whereas on my site it's right underneath the quoted text (image 2).
Darwa 09-14-2006, 03:21 PM Wow!
I'd never noticed that before.
Sure would be a handy mod to have :)
Peggy 09-14-2006, 04:23 PM Every vB board I've posted on does this, Elsie, so I figured it's default.
Darwa 09-14-2006, 04:46 PM Not mine :(
minstrel 09-14-2006, 06:41 PM In the reply box, there is no extra line but when you post it the extra line will appear/is added.
Elsie 09-15-2006, 12:52 AM yes indeed it does minstrel......
but i'd love to know how to get it like that in the reply box also. it looks cleaner, somehow, when posting.
can anyone enlighten?? is it a default thing for 3.6 maybe? (altho i seem to recall seeing it here long before 3.6 came out.)
Big Dan 09-15-2006, 04:05 AM It's assume it's in a template somewhere which one I don't know.
I wanted to add I've been an end user on vB forums since before 3.0 and I always remember that line break
minstrel 09-15-2006, 06:50 AM I also have been a member on VB forums for some time, back in the version 2 days, and it's always been that way as far as I recall.
I wouldn't worry a lot about it, Elsie. It's only in the edit box - not in the actual post - and it's only one "Enter" to drop down that extra line if you really want it.
Peggy 09-15-2006, 10:50 AM If I'm reading her post correctly, she wants that space there, but she also wants it when using the regular reply as well.
Elsie 09-15-2006, 02:25 PM the line is there once the message is posted. that's fine.
and this only applies to the advanced reply box as you get taken to that automatically when you quote someone (or at least, you do on my site).
and minstrel, i'm not worrying about it at all! lol. was really just curious, and wondered how it was acheived.
Elsie 09-18-2006, 12:53 AM so to recap.....
people think it's a default thing, and yet it doesn't do it on my forum. strange.
either that or no-one knows how it was achieved. hey ho.
another of my queries goes unresolved. c'est la vie! lol
Peggy 09-18-2006, 12:59 AM sorry Elsie, but it does it on my forum, and I didn't do anything to get it that way. http://www.exquisitelyerotic.net/forums/images/smilies/shrug.gif
Noppid 09-18-2006, 03:15 AM The Space is inserted when you use the Standard Editor with Extra Controls.
The Space is not inserted when you use the Enhanced Editor Full WYSIWYG Editing.
You can control the default posting interface in the ACP or allow members to select which they use in the User CP IIRC.
Elsie 09-18-2006, 12:41 PM well, there *is* a difference, having tried all 3 options.....
for the first 2, the cursor goes immediately under the quoted text (no extra line tho). for the WYSIWYG one it puts the cursor NEXT TO the end quote tag.
so, true up to a point noppid :) but i still don't get the blank space unless i hit return.
it's *really* not a big issue - i was just curious as to how it was done. i assumed it was a forced <br /> in a template somewhere. apparently not!! lol

I noticed the anomoly you mention. However in my testing I found that depending where I clicked I either got the cursor at the end of the quote tag or on the next line. So I posted as if this answered your question.
This is due to the javascript coding of the editors I believe. Open a bug at vbulletin.com. Let them go nuts making it perfect. :p
Elsie 09-19-2006, 12:46 AM lol. i *really* don't think i'll bother!!
