UK Web Host

So how many people on here have hosting in the UK and who would you rate?

I'm moving to Zen Internet for talkbritain and burnleyweb as they are for people in the UK and at the moment i'm getting too many complaints from people about the speed of the sites, speed fine in America though, but need to be fine in the UK really as that's who the sites are aimed at.

Any others you know? I'm thinking of the re-seller package with them, http://www.zenwebhosting.com/reseller.aspx?source=zwhh (Hope the links ok, want someone to see if it looks good).

I know someone who uses them for a local community site that is busier than both of mine put together, and the speed is amazing for shared.

i use DataFlame who are uk based. been with them about 4 months and things have been good with them so far. they also have live online support for those quick fixes, which i've used several times for daft stuff like getting the clock reset...

I've been with dataflame for over 2 years now on one of my sites.

I find them great until you need something a little out of the ordinary like A list changes.

Still, at least they've not hired support staff in Delhi :D

Thought I'd add that I'm cancelling with DataFlame.

9 hours ago, I asked for another A list entry redirect change for a subdomain.

7 hours ago, the main site went down because they though vent.domain.com was the same as domain.com and changed that.

I'm still waiting for them to fix it.

Call directory assistance in Delhi and ask someone there to give dataflame a call and tell them how to correct that... :)

Dataflame look good but are they fast and what's the connection with FTP like? I've gone with Zen Internet based in Rochdale, but i'm annoyed already as support is only 8am to 8pm monday to friday and i've been waiting over a week for image processing to be installed on my server......

They installed it, but only for gifs and other stuff, when i said I run a photo gallery, etc....

Then one "IT Support" technician asked, "What's GD2?"........... I turned off live chat and sent an e-mail!

Neal, I can't warn people away from Dataflame enough.

Read this recent trouble I had.

I, on the other hand, have no complaints with them at all so far. Guess it all depends what you need/want from your hosts.

I find them fast and easy to deal with.

True. But almost any host is a good host until you have a problem. That's when you find out whether their tech support is worth the money they (and you) pay them.

I went with Zen Internet, very fast and professional with backups, etc but their support is shite. Taken them 5 days to install GD2 when they forgot to add it and when I said it was needed for an image gallery, they left off .jpeg support! Now been waiting over 7 days and still not got it completed yet.

The support guy said, "What's GD2?"......I explained and sent an e-mail!

Can't beat the speed though...

Yep. Gotta love those speedy responses that say "Huh?"
