beller 10-04-2006, 11:30 AM I've upgraded without any problems...All running fine for me.
mikelbeck 10-04-2006, 12:50 PM Yargh....
I just finished upgrading 12 vBulletin sites to 3.6.1 YESTERDAY....
Dave A 10-04-2006, 02:03 PM It looks like the only template change that affects me going from 3.6.1 to 3.6.2 is SHOWTHREAD.
And it looks like it's not revert critical.
It's getting all the mods back when you do the template changes that bug me the most (apart from having to close the board for the upgrade).
I'll tackle it this weekend - the trouble with being part time.
Hell³ 10-04-2006, 03:04 PM Time to renew my downloading rights... sigh...
minstrel 10-05-2006, 06:27 PM I did my upgrade to 3.62 this morning. I waited until I had plenty of time but it went without a hitch - no templates to update at all. :D
MZG2010 10-05-2006, 07:45 PM I dont do my upgrade yet waiting me :D:D
Hell³ 10-05-2006, 08:21 PM I'm still procrastinating on this. Yeah, big word, more points :D.
Peggy 10-05-2006, 08:24 PM I'm not upgrading this time around. I'm not having any issues with 3.6.1, so I'll wait.
cool-dude 10-05-2006, 10:44 PM Could someone help me upgrade to the newest verison please.
Hell³ 10-06-2006, 12:27 AM Wich version do you have actually?
Besides that, you should take care into who do you allow uploading or administrative privileges. That's why is better to learn to do it yourself, so you don't risk having troubles with your site.
Welcome to vb-faq.
minstrel 10-06-2006, 05:55 AM Upgrading isn't usually difficult, cool-dude.
The first question is, as Hell3 says, what version are you running currently?
The second is: What hacks or plug-ins do you have installed on your forum currently? What version are these rated for? In general, something rated for version 3.6x should be fine. Some 3.5x plug-ins/hacks also will work but not all. If it's been a while since you last upgraded, you may have to redo some of your forum customizations.

I do the same thing Peg. I always lag a bit with upgrades. Too many forums to do and sometimes several upgrades come in sucession pretty quick. I wait until things are stable.
minstrel 10-06-2006, 08:37 AM There are some bug fixes with 3.62 and if you're not having any problems with 3.61 it should be an easy upgrade.
The only potential issue would be hacks or addons but if they're working on 3.60 and 3.61 they should also work on 3.62.

I learned my lesson with 3.6 betas and RC's. I did the upgrades immediately, all the way through 3.6.1.
Since this isn't a security issue upgrade, and I'm not having a single problem with any of the bugs mentioned, I'm waiting.
I betcha we get another upgrade in a couple of weeks. Anyone want to wager a bet? :p
minstrel 10-06-2006, 09:53 AM Suit yourself. But I think as a matter of general advice, this is an easy upgrade and I'd recommend that people do so.
Personally, I almost never install betas but I do try to keep up with updates. Little bugs have a way of multiplying into big bugs, especially if you have much in the way of customizations or plug-ins.
Hell³ 10-06-2006, 10:16 AM Yeah, the problem with having too much plugins is that you will have to mantain a tidy backend for them. And if you have many hacks, you will have to update templates no one else had to, more than likely. So you end up working for the hacks... sigh...
Peggy 10-06-2006, 12:26 PM I have only a few hacks on one site and just a couple on the other. I feel bad for someone who has alot of hacks tho... ouch.
btw... congrats on your promotion to "mod-ship" Hell3, I have no doubt you'll be an asset to this site. ;)
Hell³ 10-06-2006, 02:15 PM Thanks Peggy, I appreciate your words a lot.

ubetcha sweetie
Big Dan 10-07-2006, 05:27 AM I updated 2 of mine and other one this morning. Everything went smooothly. So smoothly that I almost enjoyed the process. :D
One board is heavily modded and I had to "re-hack" the templates to add them back but that was it.
I wonder why vB keeps pushing updates like this.. Don't they realize it's PITA?
minstrel 10-07-2006, 06:53 AM I don't understand why people complain about it, to be honest.
People report bugs to vBulletin, or they find bugs themselves. vBulletin promptly fixes those bugs and issues an update. Anywhere else, that would be considered a good thing.
Frankly, after dealing with unfixed bugs that went on forever in phpBB and SMF and phpLD, coming to vBulletin is like a breath of fresh air. I love it.
Big Dan 10-07-2006, 07:13 AM It is a good thing. My problem is when they pushed 3.6 it was the first update in a while. Then they released .6.1 and .6.2. in quick succession.
Every update sends hack and template developers off in a frenzy to tweak for the new version.
Every update sends webmasters looking for hack updates and worries about upgrading the hacks possibly loosing hack data.
minstrel 10-07-2006, 07:20 AM I understand. But the pluses greatly outweigh any minuses. Anyone who has tried to live with unfixed bugs in software for weeks or months on end will agree with me.
Peggy 10-07-2006, 11:03 AM I absolutely agree. The developers at Jelsoft are wonderful about quickly fixing bugs and security risks with updates. vB truly is top-of-the-line software.
i cant seem to upload any new templates it says....
This file was created using a different version of vBulletin from the one you are running.
Your version: 3.6.2
File version: 3.6.0
how come every version i try upload says that, is there no new styles for the 3.6.2 versions yet?
utw-Mephisto 10-16-2006, 03:20 PM Simply make the magic tick to ignore the file versions .. although then its no guarantee that the style will still work .. but most of them do ..
There are several explanations for that
1. Style has not been tested on 3.6.2 and he wants to be on the save side
2. Author forgot to change the version number within the style to 3.6.2
3. There are simply none ;)
