First attempt at own skin

Hi everyone,

Been slaving away over weekend on my first custom skin, would love some thoughts/opinions on it, good or bad!

It is quite interesting, it has some of the "web 2.0 vibe" but not quite. Good job, it looks quite unique.

I like the skin itself. You're doing great for your first try.

Two things I noticed... maybe 3

The graphic on the category strips, I don't like. I like the design, but not for a cat strip. Reason being is the design doesn't "flow", it looks like you have plants growing out of each other. Especially true on forum display. WOW.
the "tags" button on the navbar is out of whack
the entire forum is too wide.. I'm having to scroll way over to the right to see everything
the left side bar is too wide, which is probably contributing to #2 ^. AND the SEARCH and NEW POST are repeating, both vertically and horizontally.

I kinda like to overall look.

Do you mean the grey graphic with the stripes? I've toned it down a bit now so more subtle

Still to find the template to change this! Its not in the navbar so must be buried away in something else

What resolution are you running? Admittedly as it is still a work in progress and my first skin, I havent tested all that much in other screen resolutions, this will be next to fix

The left bar is only 233px wide, any narrower and I feel it would become very cramped and confusing, the graphics are supposed to repeat, thought it looked quite good and wanted to break the sections up

I like this style. You did a good job! :)

Looks good but I would get rid of the bar on the left, it dosent server much purpose and it would look much better without. Overall though its pretty easy on the eyes and a nice selection of colors. Better than 90% of skins Ive seen.

Cheers for the comments everyone, this is still a work in progress. As for the left bar, working on incorporating moo.fx into the site so that it will display on first visit but then can be hidden with some nice animation until needed again

good job but it REALLY looks like you got the design and graphics from www.extremepixels.com 's Centura Skin, and just added stuff to them.

I agree with Jenny. Other than a couple of additions, and a different header, this does seem to be a copy of EP's Centura skin. Not good.

Thanks for the comments everyone, it was created using the centura skin as a starting point which is why some parts still remain (font style, few graphics).

The design however is nothing like centura, navbar completely different, sidebar on left, in fact, centura doesnt really have a design - it's exactly same as default installation, just styled differently.

Anyway, as mentioned, was my first go at skinning so dont think i've done that bad, next one i'm working on is completely all my own work
