RC Attacker 09-03-2006, 04:09 PM Hey guys, sorry to get off topic but you were really banned? Man I thought it was just me. As many forums I'm on/have been on I have never once been banned. Then I find TAZ and get banned from 2 posts (making a thread twice on accident.) I asked him for a second chance and he let me but then banned me again because of begging for someone to give me a free vBulletin forum. (Which was what the thread was for) Some how I'm still banned but I able to access the site today and re joined. I'm not trying to annoy him even though I really don't like him, but it's a good forum. So that's how he is? Real easy to ban people?
Anyway:
1. First is another vBulletin forum that I super mod at. They have a banner to promote me. I have one to promote them.
2. Well, lol, that's were all my members came from so I now try to get my forum listed on every directory I can find.
3. I'm a member of a million forums; advertise on all of them without spamming, like put my forum in the post your forum forum or put it in my sig.

Peggy 09-03-2006, 06:25 PM Lol, who are/where you?
say what?
I was reading the story behind your ban at TAZ, lol. Yes it is very easy to get banned over there. Just say one thing the admin doesn't like and POOF you is gawn!
RC Attacker 09-03-2006, 06:57 PM Lol, I had a story? Where? Yeah, he sent me a PM that said bye bye.
Peggy 09-03-2006, 07:05 PM HA... at least he graced you with a PM
RC Attacker 09-03-2006, 07:10 PM Lol yeah. But there was a story about me?
Peggy 09-03-2006, 07:11 PM I was talking about your post above, telling who you were banned from TAZ lol
RC Attacker 09-03-2006, 07:15 PM Oh yeah, lol sorry.
friscogal 09-05-2006, 08:01 PM peggy, what is TAZ? is it admin fusion board? because if so, i am so afraid to post there. someone posted a thread and i asked what "xyz" meant because i didn't know and i got a warning...before i got the warning, i posted somewhere else innocently and they sent me warning 1 & 2 right after each other with a threat to ban...i am afraid over there.
Peggy 09-05-2006, 08:04 PM Tammy that happened at AdminFusion? wow. I've heard some of the mods there go nuts with the infractions. That's ridiculous.
TAZ is The AdminZone. Another site for forum admins etc. Again, a good site, so long as you watch your step ;)
friscogal 09-05-2006, 08:49 PM i will remember that...some people are really uptight.
oops...went to the site that was rigid and it was digitalpointsforum

I'm not surprised at AdminFusion for doing that. Peggy remember when I told you about that crazy lady at that site that ignores me because I'm also an Admin...well...
Peggy 09-06-2006, 09:30 AM Which site Tanya?
oh, you mean TAZ...........................??

Deejay Dan 09-06-2006, 10:00 AM I have no use for sites that feel threatened by other admins. I personally like other administrations to sign up and use my sites, especially if I know them first hand. I always have someone whom will provide me with technical feedback.
Regular users provide great feedback but "I'm getting an error" compared to"the arcade systems shows a mySQL error on game display" (user vs. admin) is a heck of a lot more helpful to me. ;)
Back on topic:
Top three for OurDjtalk.com according to the last time I pulled the server logs:
adjrevolution.com (another site I host/admin)
Members websites (about 6 combined)
vB-Faq (I guess people like to check things out. :))
friscogal 09-07-2006, 09:31 PM 1. vbulletin-FAQ

1. vbulletin-FAQ

We've gotten a few Knotties who came to look around B2W, but they didn't and don't stay. You can't change a Knottie.
friscogal 09-08-2006, 11:29 AM i've converted about 20 knotties...theknot board is lame...a bunch of "heathers" that post stuff about what they are eating for lunch....i never even went there when i was engaged, planning my edding...it made me too nauseous.
i bet you have more knottie converts than you think :)

I could never make any friends on The Knot. :(
Anyhow...I love Knot Magazine for New York City. I buy it every season. That's the only thing I like about The Knot. I think it's out of control because it's owned by a Corporation and there are no Mods. The P/E forum are full of mean girls. LOL! I don't touch it.

lol
friscogal 09-09-2006, 07:24 PM eating mean girls for lunch is my specialty

I can't see how they even chat over there. The software sucks and it looks bad!!! I can't stand to look at it for too long.
Deejay Dan 09-09-2006, 08:44 PM I visited knot just to see what's up.. There is no space to chat a good 1/3 of the page is taken up by in your face ads. I guess their making a fortune but all those ads take away from the content IMHO.
friscogal 09-09-2006, 08:47 PM i dont like to rip of other forums but theknot is horrible...it is so hard to find info there and they stick a giant ad in the middle of the threads.
friscogal 09-09-2006, 08:48 PM danny,
i went to your site via your sig link and something funky happened...maybe when you are up and running we can do a post xchange

Don't you like the fashion TV too? lmao! I have to keep turning the darn thing off. It's so annoying and yep, Danny, everybody (who has money) advertises with The Knot.
Peggy 09-10-2006, 07:33 AM ........yep, Danny, everybody (who has money) advertises with The Knot.knot me.
ok ok, bad joke
knot me.

LOL! We have loads of Knottie jokes too. A lot of the Knotties have great ideas and wedding day pictures, so I do go searching through their profiles.
tarab2 04-29-2007, 12:19 AM I realize this thread is old but, "OMG"....dejavue (sp?).
Wow, just reading about all of you who were banned from some forum for doing diddly squat makes me feel like I'm in the Twilight Zone, LOL.
No, I wasn't banned from the same place you all were but rather from another forum that I was a member of for about a year. Why was I banned? Of all things, simply because I started a forum of my own, LOL. And yes, I'm serious! I was blown away when it happened and didn't expect it in the least. Heck, I had no idea something like that could even happen; it's so.....wrong.
Anyway, thanx for sharing all of your own little stories about unjust bannings, I feel somewhat better now knowing that I'm not the only one who's ever gotten the boot for doing nothing wrong. Kind of nice to know I'm not alone in that regard, LOL.
BTW, this forum here rocks. I love the openess of everyone. How refreshing!!
Keep it up!
Tara
Peggy 04-29-2007, 08:51 AM Thanks for posting Tara! Don't ever apologize for reviving an old thread. If you have something to say, then say it! It's fun reliving these old threads. :D
haha, get this. I left this site (vbfaq) for a little while and my ban was removed at TAZ. I came back a few months ago, and YEP you guessed it - I'm banned again! No pm, no message no nothing - just couldn't see the board.
ROFL! To me, that is just hilarious!
Dave A 04-29-2007, 10:18 AM I'm not too sure which issue is the major theme in this thread anymore.
Anyway, dealing with the thread title, I've never had two consecutive months where the top traffic referrer was the same. Frankly, I've found that a little wierd, but a pleasant diversion each month to see where the non-search engine generated traffic comes from.
Moving onto the apparent main subject of conversation - banning "competitor" members - is anyone really surprised? There seems to be an oversupply of scarcity thinkers in this world.
It's actually a backhand compliment. You rate as a threat. Unfortunately, it is this "compliment" aspect that probably drives trolls too :(
Peggy 04-29-2007, 10:46 AM Eh, it's ok to get sidetracked, as long as you come back to the main topic, imo.
Anyway, my banning from TAZ isn't about competition, it's about my association with >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> JOEY, lol. Sandy hates him.
BACK to the topic again -
My referrers have changed over the months. My main source of traffic is now vb.org. Releasing free styles there with a live demo link to my designs site is the winner.
Coming in second is my sig link to Top-vb in my sig at vb.com. My vb installations charges are less than 1/2 of what they charge.
Third, would be minerskinz.com. Miner sends me alot of business, and they, in turn, refer me to others. The old word of mouth deal.
Dave A 04-29-2007, 10:53 AM So you think it would be OK to put vB-FAQ in my sig at TAZ?
Peggy 04-29-2007, 11:01 AM SUUUUUUUUURE - if you enjoy getting banned, LOL
Dave A 04-29-2007, 11:13 AM
Nothing personal, huh ;)
Peggy 04-29-2007, 11:32 AM not at all.......
tarab2 04-29-2007, 12:38 PM haha, get this. I left this site (vbfaq) for a little while and my ban was removed at TAZ. I came back a few months ago, and YEP you guessed it - I'm banned again! No pm, no message no nothing - just couldn't see the board.LOL, waaaaaaay to funny!
Is this the jokes thread or something, ha ha?
It's actually a backhand compliment. You rate as a threat. Unfortunately, it is this "compliment" aspect that probably drives trolls tooHow right you are, Dave. I think you're bang on the money with this one.
Yes, I'm sure my banning was for the reason of competition and nothing else. I (along with my forum co-owner, Bruce) both were considered top members at the original forum we belonged with. The owner of the site would hold top member contests and both Bruce and I won the most recent one (while we were still allowed there, LOL). Also, just before I was banned I was asked by the owner if I would be a moderator but, knowing that I would be busy starting up my own forum, I politely turned the request down and gave him an honest answer as to why. He said it was no problem and that it was no big deal but, sure enough, when I next went to login, whoooooooooooooops, you guessed it....BANNED, lol. I thought for sure it must have been an obvious error so I emailed Bruce (my forum co-owner) to check and see what would happen on his end if he tried logging in and, sure enough, same thing, he found that he had been banned, too, ha ha.
Both of us were there more than long enough to prove ourselves; we were excellent members, very helpful and super active, (etc, etc, etc) and, just as soon as we, together as a team, started up our own forum we both found ourselves instantly banned.
Coincidence? I don't think so, LOL.
Oh well, at least we got to see someone's "true colors" shine thru so all was not lost. We definitely learned something about people and we now chalk it up to a good learning experience.
Thanx for your replies, btw, you all have now given me a serious case of the giggles; can't help but enjoy those, LOL. :giggle:
Peggy 04-29-2007, 01:57 PM Ain't it the truth! lol - I've been in such a good mood today - first time in a long time!
xFuryx 05-09-2007, 05:32 PM Well I guess my top 3 would be google, google translate >.<,and yahoo.
teampower 05-16-2007, 07:06 AM can find it here Daily updated list of the largest message boards and forums in the world

Just curious to know which are the top 3 sites driving the most traffic to your forums apart from search engines.

1. WebhostingTalk.com (Webhosting discussion forum)
2. Hotscripts.com (I have a listing there)
3. Admin Fusion Forums
julia44 07-03-2007, 07:07 PM Well I'm going to majorly OT here lol...shocker!
I did the knottie thing long enough to plan my wedding and that was about it. The only info I got from the knot board was places to buy candy in bulk if needed and picture ideas for my candy buffet. Other then that yes that place is HORRID! I planned my wedding in 2 weeks so I didn't have to be there long thankfully. I kid you not lol 2 weeks.
Now back on topic my board hasn't been up long enough to have 3 places to generate a ton of traffic for us.
Caddyman 07-03-2007, 07:14 PM 1. GOOGLE does that count in this thread?
2. forums.delawareonline.com hehehe
3. mailcenter2.comcast.net <-- does that mean comcast email links?
4. lifelemons.wordpress.com My sisters blog
Peggy 07-03-2007, 07:36 PM Mine keep changing! :faint2:
1. Word of Mouth
2. vBulletin.org
3. vBFAQ
todd2222 07-03-2007, 09:09 PM Google
Yahoo
Word of Mouth
Ad in local magazine
Swerve1000 07-04-2007, 05:54 PM Apart from my trolling of certain sites, Google Images has been the biggest yet and daily motion (URL in vid description)
popowich 07-04-2007, 09:55 PM My traffic is mostly direct request, which translates to existing members returning.
My top 3 after that are Yahoo and Google searches, followed by MySpace link clicks.
Now and then I remind my members to try and give us a link from their MySpace pages.

jshg46 08-03-2007, 10:20 AM thanks for some good info, very interesting thread here.
cyberpunk 09-10-2007, 07:38 PM I'm very new to adminning a forum and I'm wondering where to go to find the referring URL's. Is it in AdminCP? Thanks for the help and good info so far!
Deejay Dan 09-10-2007, 08:31 PM There are no refering URLs in the AdminCP. Normally you view referring URLs in your statistics program from your host. If you're on a cPanel server click on Web/FTP Stats from your main cPanel page.

I use webalizer (http://www.mrunix.net/webalizer/) to generate these statistics and others against my apache logs.

ROFL! To me, that is just hilarious!
If y'all don't mind, I'd like to add my tales of being banned.. and of all places to get banned from, my web host (http://www.bluehost.com) banned me from their forum. Why did they ban me? They have an off-topic forum over there at http://www.bluehostforums.com (I think it's with an 's', IIRC.) Anyway, I looked through thier forums and saw that people posting any kind of topic in the off-topic forum so I felt safe in posting questions seeking advice on starting an online business and about getting into dropshipping. I also went into some detail that my mom has a craft business where she makes fabric dolls, and that I was thinking of putting her dolls on a website to sell. After posting I waited and waited and waited somemore, then a week later I went back to the site expecting to have a few replies, but low and behold - I had the door slammed in my face.
This is what I ran into...
You have been banned for the following reason:
spammer
Date the ban will be lifted: Never
... and that was the first time I had been on the site.
Thanks for hearing my tales of woe :)
