I came up with a simple, but interesting idea...

For some reason, I often type the word have incorrectly. Its a consistant typo I make, reversin the H and the A. I do it quite often.

Ok, so, I stumbled across a fix.

The... Replacement Variable Manager

So, now I cannot misspel the word anymore.

This might be a good way to deal with particular words your users may misspel frequently.

but what if a use types a word that has this group of letters in it, and it messes up the original word.

unless it could be set by the user to their own typos ?

That's why I always use the built-in spell checker when I make a post. ;)

Thats too much aggravation for something so simple. And it doesnt help users.

This could be good for things that are commonly misspelled.

I do the same thing Joey. So where does one get this Replacement Variable Manager ?

In your Admin CP under Styles & Languages

It is good Peggy, but as Loco says do remember that you can't be selective about what you change.

So, for example, if you regularly type teh instead of the, I am not sure what happens when you type the word whitehead for example.

Great idea.

And @ Loco.M - Put a space after and before, that way it has to be the beginning and ending of a word.

" taht "-> " that "
instead of
"taht" -> "that"

Ahh, I didn't see how old this was >.<; Sorry for posting in an old thread : [ It was still on the first page so yea..

I'm going to mark this as installed, and this actually did make me think of something that could work, possibly. (I'm not much of an xml scripter with all those if's and everything as normal tags, but bleh. Anyway, what I think you could do that would help is compile a list of common Acronym's, tough words, etc. Combine this with a sort of 'define' tag or 'acronym' tag that when you hover over it will show you the definition etc.

That way it would eliminate a lot of the "What does ___ mean?" from boards, which is very nice for newbies on your board. ;]

I'll see if I can work on it once I get more testing in with RVM, since I plan on having the RVM work on those most used but still often mispelled words, especially big ones. :/

I am very interested in the mouse over to show a words definition. I wait with baited breath :D

For that, you might also want to check the Geek Autolinker (GAL) at thevbgeek.com.
