Hi,

I'm making this post here... maybe Joey can add it to the customize vB essential hacks page?

flasherize.com- Basically, it's light weight and for shared servers. No crashing or anything. I'm almost done with v2, which will make it the best shared server chat room on the net... Just have a look and you'll love it. Very sleek. Thanks.

vBulletin module free and fully supported! No more going to other sites to get hacks like other chat products have going for them.

You forgot to mention its $40 a year. Flashchat is $5 -- lifetime.

If you have a look, you'll notice that the ChatRoom is higher quality in terms of looks and speed.

v2 has dozens of features that FlashChat doesn't happen. Linux is free; people still use Windows. While that isn't really an analogous comparison, I thought about it.

Let the market tell if it's too much. However, we'd love to test your application if that is possible?

Hi,

So far the market has proven that people will buy it. By the way, v2 remembers your features so you can have the same font color, etc. when you re-enter.

noppid, please have a look at the demo: http://www.flasherize.com/?act=demo

Now, because FlashChat is $5 that's good and all but we offer free installation as well as definitive support so you won't be left hanging. In any case, ChatRoom is a pet project and I love programming so I'm having fun with it and that's more important than any dollar amount.

Thanks. :)

This needs to be tested with the number of members over 25 on a server that can be monitored before it's true IMO.

Hi Kriminal,

Multiple, admin created rooms (the admin cp will soon allow you to create rooms) will be added.

Now, I have tested it with 10 other people on this site before I launched and everything was fine.

I believe the chat will accommodate 25+ people. On the next version, 1.5.0, I have made the list icon smaller so it can show around 20 or so people without you scrolling down. In fact, I believe after 100+ you'd need a dedicated server to run this script and it would in fact rival a dedicated IRC server for performance.

I haven't had a look at FlashChat, but the reason I developed this product is because ChatRoom is bandwidth friendly and has speed in mind. It also does not have dozens of features FlashChat has, which can slow down things greatly on shared servers.

Thank you for your questions.

Of course better code would make the difference, but I can't compare the two at this time.

The way I have coded it, the software should run with over 25 people. It's quite advanced and uses remoting, so it should be able to handle a large load. I've tested it with 15 people at most and things were running pretty smoothly - this was a few days before I launched the product.

However, i must stress that over 100+ users you definitely need to buy a dedicated server and run IRC or some dedicated chat...

This software I have is intended for people with a moderately sized forum. I also consider the look and feel very important so I spent a good deal designing it.

Well, in any case, thanks for having a look.

Keep in mind larger forums will use many many more queries than my chat product and still have a fine time running vBulletin.

Sounds like you have a good idea of what to expect. Good luck. I'm sure there will be interest.
