PS: a very good way to get listed in Search Engines without submitting in Directories is adding your link to forum signatures

Me too! Every single one. And I'm on A LOT of forums.....they are my life. I'm now on my way to adding my forum to every single free directory I can find. Do you think it will do me any good? I also managed to get on Google....but it only comes up if you type RC Attacker which is the name of the site. How do you get on Google anyway? Does it just go on if the forum gets big?

go to google.com and submit your site to the search engine.

YES it absolutely does help to add your site to directories.
Also, go through all the SEO tips on this site, and do every one of them that you can.

Wow! I just added my site to at least 20 directories and still going. I have my hops up real high after this. Is the Google thing free?

Don't expect instant gratification. It can take months, even years to drive traffic.

However, this a a good way to work and work ofter. Don't give up.

Paid advertising is worth while if you have something to monetize.

Watch out for promises and snake oil when offered a service. ;)

Well thanks, that site basically owns. I just submitted to like 30 directories by only filling out my info to one. Now I really have my hopes up being my forum is on at least 50 directories. But I probably have a lot of conformation e-mails to check now.... :(

Lol, I don't link putting random links on my sites. The only ones you will ever see are those 3 rotational banners I have for my friends' forums.

I have never submitted to any directory that requires payment or a reciprocal link. If I think the directory is a good one, I may voluntarily give a link but never because it's required. Just a matter of principle with me.

I'm the same way. There are plenty of directories that are truly free, no strings attached.

They are.

I wouldn't say that it's never worth paying for a link. However, I've never paid to submit my sites to a directory and doubt that I ever would.

That's not to say that I wouldn't pay to place my link on a content relevant site (not a directory) with high PR.

How long has your forum been in existence Raymond? PR 2 and 3 is nothing to sneeze at. One site I owned was a PR 5 until the last indexing, then dropped to PR 1 even though it's as busy as ever. Go figure

1. PR (PageRank) is a somewhat volatile figure which is a measure of the NUMBER and QUALITY of links to a specific page. Publicly visible PR (which is all you have access to) is only up to date immediately following a public PR update, which happens only when Google feels like it, every few months or so. "Real" PR, the figure actually used by Google, changes on a continuous or ongoing basis. Generally, to increase PR requires more "quality" incoming links.

2. PR is only one of "more than 100 factors" used by Google to rank a page in their search results. Increasing PR alone may or may not help you. There are numerous examples of lower PR pages outranking higher PR pages in Google's search results.

I didn't explain "at what" here, because this thread was originally started, to be a list of directories. Perhaps a split is in order?
