Unlockables system based on rep points

This one is a little specific. I need a set of hacks, that all accomplish one specific goal.

I need an unlockables system, that is based off rep points. We had one based off post count, but as you can imagine, far too much spam. So, we want a system based off of how much rep points you have. The rep points however need to be only adjustable by the moderators and admins. Some of the users just can't be trusted with it, ya know?

what do you mean - unlockables system?

You can set rep points to only be given or taken by mods in vb stock I believe -- you can also move people to different usergroups (with different permissions) based on rep points -- thats all stock vb I believe. (I dont use rep so im not 100% sure)

Well, we had it before to where, you couldnt have a sig until 300 posts, Couldn't have a custom avatar until 500, and couldn't have a movable avatar until 730 posts. With all sorts of little stuff in between. (Such as locking your own threads)

Well, we want it to be to where, the mods distribute the points needed yo get the upgrades.

Hey waitaminute. I just caught on to something. You say that the ability for mods and certain usergroups to distribute rep points is in stock vb right? Well then, if we could set up different usergroup ranks that each step allows for something else, then that might work O.o

We could set each user group up like a checkpoint. Once you have enough rep then you woul be bumped up with the users who have sigs, even with the eventual gain of distributing the rep points yourself. Thanks alot sir admin.

It sounds like you have a plan now. I use this feature now on one of my forums. I have a hidden forum and after so many post users get access to it. It is a great little thing to use is usergroups.

I know it may be veering off a bit, but I greatly appreciate your swift responce. I just posted this before I went to sleep, woke up, and there my answer was.

I'll be lurking more to see if I can't find new and interesting stuffs. Alternatively if anyone wants to take a look at the anime networks forums (www.theanimenetwork.com/vbforum), and see if they can com up with something that could improve it that could help, just PM me on this forum and I'll pass it on to the admin (He's lazy, It'll probably take him month to get this set up -.-;;) Also, if I stepped out of line with this, feel free to delete it, although, I'm sure you didn't need my permission. Gotta keep the mods on their toes ;)

Usergroups can be set up, using promotions, to advance members to the next one by either number of posts, reputation level, or length of membership. On a forum I used to own, we had usergroups set up as such:

50 + posts gained access to the arcade
100 + posts gained access to the photo gallery
150 + posts = access to the vBPlaza

But that was just us. Usergroups have a variety of different things you can withhold and "award" once they get enough posts.
