Rules of Engagement

I am curious, do you have some sort of guidelines for your mod's and admins to "engage" in a thread and actively moderate?

I know that busy comunities and PG-13 or PG friendly communities might have some special circumstances that might influence one way or the other if a mod reacts to some sort of specific post or info that might be considered not totally against the board rules.

Have you taken the time to put this guidelines in a nice formatted sticky in you staff forum or you just "take'em as they come"?

We have a community of members that see each other offline as well as online.

Sometimes discussions get a little heated.

A rule that I had to put in place that works well is:

Do not moderate a thread that you have participated in, please ask another moderator or me (the admin) what we think.

This works well when followed and members can't claim "abuse of power".

We do on the DJ board. Everyone worked them out together and agreeded to them.

Some of it's pretty basic like: Don't abuse mod tools (ex: don't edit a buddies post as a prank)

The little staff icon makes people think you know what you're talking about. If your speaking of your opinion, preface it with "IMO", or in my experience.

Follow the community guidelines (TOS) to the tee as your an example for the rest.

Pretty basic stuff, IMO. ;)

Hey Dan - do you DJ yourself...? I don't but my lad is starting to get into it. Got him a Korg Electribe EMX1 for crimbo - on top of his KAOSS Pad II and Beringher mixing deck..

I am a synth geek personally - owning three beasts - plus several softsynths...

Yup, I've been DJing since I'm 15, I had a brake from it for a couple of years. I mostly do bars, they provide the equipment, I provide the music. It doesn't make me rich but it pays the bills :) I'm hope to get my own mobile setup in the next year or so.
