Good job Blackice. I'd like to have seen a tad bit more color, but you did good

Thanks :)

I'm proud of myself, I actually figured out how to allow new users 24 hours of free access before being bumped into the expired trial usergroup :D Took a while to figure out but finally it paid off.

I'm still working on some images to make it more my own design, but I thought half way through it would be nice to get some feedback :)

It's good that your designing more images to make the style your own so I'm mainly replying to your last statement. I would replace all the default stock images which are still lingering on your board with custom made variants. This would certainly pave the way for a more unique look and give you what your look for, A style of your own with graphics that compliment your style you work so hard in creating.

Nice work and good luck with the style.

I agree with this, as most will just not bother. People will register if something catches their attention.

Other than that, it's a nice looking site so well done!

I know, but hes an expert copywrite/marketing..person, lol, i know nothing about it. But he's worked with Yahoo!, MSN, New York Times and alot of other companies, re-writing portions of their websites to be more user friendly/eye catching. So it's a subscription forum. He already has some subscribers, then after a while hopefully more will come :)

Guests are permitted to view most of my site, but not all of it. A few forums are off limits to guests.
In his case tho, I can perfectly understand the reasoning. I know of a couple of other sites where guests can see the forum and even thread titles, but not thread content. And they are busy forums.

on my site? look again. They can view most of the threads... they just can't post in them

Sometimes it's warranted to make certain areas not viewable to guests. For example, Guests can view what's been added in the threadlist area on my forum but can't view the content because I provide live previews. That said, The rest of the forums are viewable but there are exceptions that some areas should not be viewable to guests.

That said, I post image sets on forums that allow guest viewing so it really makes the permissions on my forum somewhat redundant. It's mad really.

Ps. I'm glad you like the emoticon packs Blackice I've only got another 6000+ emoticons yet to submit that's lingering on my hardrives. :)

If guests can't see posts, wont this effect spindering and the like?

The only way I can set it up is so that guests can see the forum listings, see how many posts and threads there is but when they click on the forum, it's empty. Is there no way to do it so they can see titles without manually changing all forum permissions?

Neal, I have certain forums on my site set up so that you (guests and banned usergroups) can go as far as reading thread titles, not just forum titles, but the thread titles as well, but can't read the thread content. That's in your usergroup permissions.

Neal

excellent, i'll take a look now and sort it. Might get some new members ;-)

I've set View Forum and View Thread Content to yes in "Not Logged In" usergroup but all they see when they click on the forum is nothing. On the forum home page they can see the number of threads and posts but it says private for last post made.

Peggy

you're wanting guests to see the thread content and they can't? hmmm.. then you do need to go the long way around and go into your forum permissions and set them for each individual forum

Blackice

If you want it like mine Neal, in your Usergroup permissions do this..

Edit the unregistered usergroup and set "Can View Forum" and "Can View Others Threads" to YES and "Can View Thread Content" to NO.

This will allow guests to see thread titles, and not content.
