It has come to our attention that the sites all official vBulletin sites are down.

There have been a few errors reported by Paul M (vBulletin.org staff) which could indicate hardware issues.

The vBulletin.com staff are aware of the situation and looking into the problem and will do their best to get the sites up and running as soon as possible.

They go down quite a lot these days, wonder what they are doing?

They're servers take a terrific beating. I would suspect they need a better server / Maybe clustered.

They keep popping up and down, although if they do come up, don't everyone start hammering the site right away, give them some time... I don't know for sure if this is true, but someone on another forum mentioned that vBulletin.org and vBulletin.com were both running on the same server! They should definitely split them up, if not for the resources, then so they don't both go down at the same time!

They got some of the best server techs there are. They will sort it out.

There is no way you can prevent a DDoS attack... you can simply stop it as quicly as possible, that depending on your budget and ressources. In other words, you can spend thousands (even millions), but you will never be safe.

The title is misleading a little... but there is very good info posted there.

I thought ISPs could do it for your host pipe at the data center before the traffic gets inside if it's an attack with timing?

If it's at the machine, it's already too late I believe.

This has nothing to do with DDOS, the server suffered a hardware failure.

It's currently rebuilding on new hardware and expected back in the next 3 to 4 hours.

Here's an idea... Maybe someone from Jelsoft (preferably Kier?) ought to think about firing up one of those all-in-one server software packages like Apache2Triad, and upload a back-up of the site, and just run the darn server from home, and screw The Planet! Just a thought? :p

All kidding aside of course, let's just hope this outage truely isn't all too serious as it's appeared to be. And hope this doesn't last us for too much longer. This has been nothing short of just absolute frustration for sure. :( Good luck to all who are behind the scenes working hard on trying to fix this problem. :)

How do we do this then... queue up behind a door waiting for the nod to come in when it is our turn to access the site.

People will access vB as soon as they see it is available, and if that means the site gets hammered, c'est la vie I'm afraid. If vB has an issue with this, they can llimit the number of connections to the server. It's something they have to deal with if need be, not their customers.

I was talking with Zachary last night and doing quite a bit of research till about midnight. It's back now.

Could that have been maintenance?

Peggy
08-22-2006, 05:02 AM
could have been, but there was no maintenance message or anything. Just a "page not found/server error thingee...... they were down about 3 hours
