Custom Rank Hack?

I'm looking for a hack/mod to enable custom ranks. Allow me to explain...

With the standard VBulletin set-up, users have "User Titles", and then the site has a normal ranking system.

I'm looking for something to replace the ranking system, not the User Titles. So, somebody chooses a Rank title, and they get that rank. They never lose the rank until I take it away.

On top of the customs, they get the User Titles. They are two seperate things.

Anybody know where I can find a hack/mod that enables me to do that? Or if I don't need one, how can I set it up?

I'm sorry because I am bad at English so I wasn't able to understand what you wanted.

We use both ranks and custom usertitles on this site - no hack needed.
So I'm not quite sure what you're needing.

I can try to throw something together on Photoshop later, but let me try to go into more detail.


There is a normal rank system, like what we've got here.
Then there are user titles, which we also have here.

The "Custom Ranks" concept will kind of get rid of the normal rank system. The normal ranks are there for those who don't pick a custom rank.

Allow me to explain.

Let's say I've got 5 members on my site.

Member 1
Member 2
Member 3
Member 4
Member 5

Suppose they each have the same rank.

Member 1-Yoshi
Member 2-Yoshi
Member 3-Yoshi
Member 4-Yoshi
Member 5-Yoshi

Now suppose they each have their own user titles.

Member 1-Yoshi-TEH PWNAGE
Member 2-Yoshi-Smash Master
Member 3-Yoshi-Sacred Wolf
Member 4-Yoshi-Super Special Awesome
Member 5-Yoshi-Nintendo Fanatic

That is sort of what it's like here, correct?

Now, with the "Custom Ranks", that "Yoshi" rank is not there. Instead, they get to pick what rank they are, but still keep their user title. Like this.

Member 1-Boss-TEH PWNAGE
Member 2-The Plumber-Smash Master
Member 3-Hero of Light-Sacred Wolf
Member 4-Cookie Monster-Super Special Awesome
Member 5-Fanboy Extroardinair-Nintendo Fanatic

That's what I want to be able to do. Give each person the rank AND user title that he/she wants.

Does that help put it into perspective? I'm sorry, but I'm absolutely terrible at explaining things. I really hope this helped.

I've browsed, but I didn't have much time to look. I'll go look in more detail.

problem is, my host is the person who actually bought the VBulletin (I paid him, but he bought it), so I can't access or install them :(

Unfortunately, we don't/can't post hacks here from vb.org. Only the hack author can post them here. So you're pretty much out of luck hack-wise here.

I have a few questions for you -

Why on earth did you have your host purchase YOUR vBulletin license?
Why didn't you purchase it yourself?
If you paid for it, why didn't he put it in your name?
Better yet, if you paid for it, he can easily have your name added to the license, so that you too have access to the vB forums.
Further, in the config.php file, he can add your member ID # to the areas giving you super admin privileges, AND give you ftp access so that you can upload and install hacks.If he's not done, or is willing to do, any of this, I'd say you're being ripped off.

You should not ever, EVER, let your host purchase your vB license. I've seen at least 3 instances, personally, where the host pulled the rug out from under the customer, keeping the license that the customer gave him the $ to buy for him, and the member lost the $ and the license.

If your name is on the license as a user, you should be able to download hacks, I do believe. But still, even tho he paid for it for you, he still should have purchased it in your name.
Even tho you didn't ask for my advice, I will suggest that when the 3 month waiting period is over, you two transfer the license to your name. It's an easy process.

I'd think so. The trick would be how/where you inserted the custom field into the postbit template.

Just to let you know: You can't transfer your license if it's not been bought 3 months before the transfer.
