Why would one obtain VPS hosting without a control panel??
Just curious...

If you're proficient at using the command line, anything a control panel does you can do manually by editing text files and with based commands.
Sort of like Windows -- All those pretty icons you click actually execute text based commands "behind the scenes," you don't see what is actually happening. The GUI (Graphical User Interface) just makes it easier for you and me.
Same with cPanel or Plesk - Take away the GUI most people would be lost but it frees up resources for serving the sites, instead of running the control panel. ;)

Yeap, some people are very proficient with the command line found in linux systems, wich is also very programmable. Most if not all of the stuff you can do with ease in a control panel is also doable from a command line and is sometimes easier to do if not to remember.

Yes. I do like just playing on the command editors. Nothing more. So, cp is better for me.

I guess some people want to stay on the frugal side and not pay for control panel licensing fees though I think the extra 10-15 bucks a month is definitely worth it for cPanel.

I agree, it is definitely worth it. I've been keeping my eye on WebHosting Talk (http://www.webhostingtalk.com/). Specials are run quite frequently, but I'm specifically waiting for either LiquidWeb or ServInt to run one.
