Just a thought, and I've seen this done elsewhere......

How about editing a thread title to show that the problem has been solved? That way people know that the thread starter isn't waiting on support, but the problem and advice is still available to others.

So for example my thread "Attachments" could become something like "[Solved] Attachments". Or "Fixed" or whatever.

Like I say, just an idea. :)

probably a good idea. We could do that if it's ok with Joey

It requirers a boolean field indicating solved or not and the code to modify that setting and do the display based on that setting.

I did a similar hack back when that read closed poll instead of just poll if the poll was closed and the thread was still open.

huh? all we're talking about is clicking on thread tools, above, then edit thread, and type [solved] in the subject line of the post. Of course only an admin or mod can do so

Oh, screw that, I only do automated. :p

well if you're going to do a hack for us, that's kewl. lol
otherwise, I can edit the thread title

I just failed to see the simplicity in that. Carry on.

i certainly just meant to edit the thread title! lol. never even occurred to me it could be automated! sounds like a lot of trouble to go to tho when it can just be done manually anyway. :)

Trouble is - someone else comes along with the same or very similar problem, and has a question about the resoloution --- How does he reopen the thread?

Nobody said close the thread. I just compared the code placement for an automated version to a hack I did in the past.

i don't mean close the thread - just edit the title to show that the problem (or the initial problem at least) has been solved.

or yes, close it, and anyone with a similar query starts a new thread, and can be directed to the old one......

I agree with this..

I don't believe in closing old threads nor do I think dragging up old threads is a bad thing if the point is the same. I never understood making members work harder.

we don't need to close the thread.

like i say, it was just an idea that i've seen done elsewhere. it's up to the staff to a) decide if they want to do it and b) how to ort out the finer points ;)
