For some reason I don't have access to my smart ftp anymore, what do I do, download a new one, are they free?
I don't understand anything in it. Please help. I only used it when I tried doing upgrades. It never worked for some reason, the connection speed was too low, or something else, but I didn't like it. I don't know what to do now.
Hell³ 05-19-2007, 11:04 PM Every time you download a new version the registration clock is reset, yes.
Smartftp is good if you use the queue, you can set the number of "threads" to upload at the same time. Other good alternative without the "nag" screens is Filezilla. It also has a queue system and is somewhat easier to understand.
So do i just open the account with fuzilla, I don't have my folders saved, is it possible for me to start all over? I have been only saving VB forum.
Hell³ 05-22-2007, 09:23 PM I'm not really sure what you mean by having your folders saved, can you clarify?
Well if i go to a new fazilla place, how will i make update, the folder will not be there, it is still in the old ftp, and i don't have the access.
Can somebody tell me what should i do, i need to do the upgrade, before this sunday, and i don't have the access to my smart ftp.
Peggy 05-26-2007, 09:49 AM My only advice would be to either install another ftp program, or uninstall and re-install Smart FTP.
Dave A 05-26-2007, 11:13 AM Just download the latest version and install it.
They've just changed the way they go about things a little.
Joeychgo 05-26-2007, 11:40 AM If you pay the $36 - these problems go away.
Otherwise, you will just have to keep deleting it and reinstalling it.
To me, it's worth the $36
Ok, i will pay. As for the upgrade, do you think if i download the 3.67 version of vb, and want to do the actual upgrade later, is it ok. My permit for upgrade expires tomorrow, on Sunday, but i don't have time to do the upgrade yet, so is it ok, if i just download it, and later do it.
Peggy 05-26-2007, 10:04 PM yup, go grab it. There's nothing saying you have to do the upgrade right away.
Paul M 05-28-2007, 01:58 PM I'm bemused as to what problems you have with SmartFTP - I use the free version all the while, upgrading it every so often (twice a year at most I think) and don't get any problems.
Peggy 05-28-2007, 01:59 PM As do I. I've never had to pay for it (it's free to home/personal users and students), have always kept it upgraded, and have never had an issue.
Can somebody tell me how to download the latest version, I just saved it to my desktop and I can't open it.
Joeychgo 05-30-2007, 09:22 AM You must have saved it incorrectly.
Paul, I think they recently changed how the free version works. You get nag screens and the program doesnt open until you try to open it like the 4th or 5th time. I had the same problem until I paid for it - then not a problem since.
Yes, it only opened on the 5 th time, that's so strange.
When I do upgrades, it also gives you limited time, like it cuts you in the middle of a big folder, when you pay, do you still have this problem? I don't know how i saved it, i just did it to my desktop where the other one was.
Peggy 05-30-2007, 09:58 AM hmmmmm... I've never been "nagged" to pay for it, and I've been using it for nearly 2 years - never paid.
