AuctionAds vs Adsense

Someone asked me about this...

For me, I dont mind using extra space to display both Google Adsense ads and AuctionAds.

But the studies have shown for some time that forum members click Adsense Ads far less then non members.

So, I thought I would suggest this. Display Adsense ads to guests and AuctionAds to your members.

I think the proper conditional to accomplish this would be

<if condition="$bbuserinfo[userid] == 0">
YOUR GOOGLE ADSENSE CODE
<else />
YOUR AUCTIONADS CODE
</if>

I do want to stress. You dont have to do this. You CAN run both Adsense ads and AuctionAds on the same page and not violate the Adsense TOS. This is because the AuctionAds are not contextual.

I'm trying to get this to work in my postbit legacy, I want it to appear under the first post only, but it's showing up under every post. Any idea how to do this? Thanks

I currently have this setup in my postbit legacy for google ads:

<if condition="!$GLOBALS['FIRSTPOSTID'] && $show['guest']"> <!-- GOOGLE AD -->
<br>
<table id="post$post[postid]" class="tborder" cellpadding="$stylevar[cellpadding]" cellspacing="0" border="0" width="100%" align="center">
<tr>
<td class="thead" style="font-weight:normal; border: $stylevar[cellspacing]px solid $stylevar[tborder_bgcolor]" colspan="2">
Sponsors
</td>
</tr>
<tr>
<td class="alt2" style="border: $stylevar[cellspacing]px solid $stylevar[tborder_bgcolor]; border-top: 0px">
<center>

GOOGLE ADS

</script></if>
</center>
</td>
</tr>
</table>
<!-- / GOOGLE AD --></if>

I want to add auction ads for everyone other than the guests

You should be able to simply replace the google code with the auctionads code.

Thanks, I installed it but I can't get it to show under my first post, I followed the directions on how to edit the postbit legacy but it's still not showing.

Not a big deal, it's showing up with the showthread template edit so that's better than nothing. Nice hack, thanks!

The thing with this thought is that really members click on any ads less than what non members click on ads. It doesn't matter what the ad is really. The reasons for this is because members sign in and post while members can't post so they just browse and click more.

Good mod though as I would imagin it would help quite a few.

How long has it taken you guys to make any money?

Today is my 4th day with auction ads, I'm seeing a very strong click thru rate which is encouraging but no $$ yet.

Took me a few days - then it started to trickle in and grow. I suggest that people give it a month. Also - make sure you do the rewrite hack.

I've had it 1 week and have already made a few $

I just wanted to check back in and say that auctionads are easily outperforming adsense right now on my site. I'm also getting some good feedback from my members about them!

I've had mine up for nearly a month now and so far I have had around 0.47 CTR, which have given me 15 clicks and now sales. I know you have to test it with more clicks and for longer periods as I have been working with affiliate programs for well over 6 years.

The bad thing about it is that it's on a product site and within the time that I have had AuctionAds listed on the site, I have had 3 - 4 sales from the other products listed and the AuctionAds are just located to the top right of the site where they can be easily seen. 4 sales from my main products listed and 0 sales from AuctionAds.

I will keep it up and see how it performs over the rest of this month and into next month or even the whole of next month.

My CTR has been great, averaging over 3.5%

I noticed a dvd I was interested in one of our ads today, so I clicked on it - only to find I just got taken to a general listing of auctions (based on my chosen keyword) and not the one I actually saw advertised. Testing a few others all seem to do the same.

Is this really how they work or have I got some obscure problem - if I see an auction displayed and click on it, I expect to be taken to that auction, not a listing based on my keyword.

The AuctionAds system automatically geotargets the user that clicks. Right now, only US users get taken directly to the ads. Non US users get taken to a search page. They plan to add more countries soon.

They do claim that people who are not in the US still convert well despite being taken to a search page.

This is another glaring example of Americans taking the rest of the world for granted, Google do Yahoo do it and just about every corporation in the US do it.
Message to the US ... there are a lot of people outside your border with money to spend ;).

Why the he11 wouldn't people from outside the US not want to buy the product they initally click on, I use ebay a lot and buy the items I want no matter where they are located, perhaps not a car or fridge lol, but definately items that can be shipped.

They do claim that people who are not in the US still convert well despite being taken to a search page.
They would convert a he11 of a lot better if they were taken directly to the product they wanted.
For example everyone I know buys computers and parts on ebay from the US. We click on a motherboard we want to buy and are taken to a search page ... thats not what we want :mad:.

OK rant over lol ... my sites (not forums) are averaging from .63 to 4.76% CTR.

I can see Auction Ads will soon overtake Adsense as a revenue generator, my Adsense CTR is around 10% across all my sites but I will implement some features that should improve the AA CTR. A couple of big positives over Adsense and YPN is that we can get ebay to open in another window, we can run as many ads on the one page as we want, we can bring peoples attention to the ads, we can point bloody great red arrows at them if we want to LOL.
One AA conversion will equal many Adsense clicks so the CTR rate isn't that important. And one click on an AA ad has the potential to lead to more conversions than just one in the 30 day period.

A friend of mine has generated over 3k from AA and he only placed them on his site 8 days ago. Their future is looking good :D

One problem with running too many ad units on one page is that become very slow to load, often the visitor can have left the page before the ads show. For that reason i am keeping it to one ad unit until they serve them faster.
