Member Auctions

I'm slowly making my way through a myriad of FAQS on both their site, and the actual Ebay site, and while I'll likely find my answer, I thought it would be best to also pose the question here.

I have been planning on utilizing something like the vb-faq classified on my forum, and I think that it's fantastic that I can now use something like AuctionAds in conjunction with such a classified system. But now I wonder if there is a way to display member auctions somehow, so maybe a few of them could get a featured ad (even if randomly shown via the keyword system).

I guess, I'm asking, is there a way to better integrate the auctionads to include my actual member base?

Any help, tips, suggestions, or comments welcome,
Q

We have the Rewrite eBay To AuctionAds (http://www.vbulletin-faq.com/forum/showthread.php?t=8828) hack here for you. This rewrites all the ebay links anyone posts on your site to your auctionads ID. It also works with vBclassified.

(to let you know, I'm here due to the newsletter, so yay 4 that ;) )

I know that, that is a possibility (and if I go with the program, I'll certainly use it!), I mean to actually have member auctions show up in ad-format through the system, rather then just posting their links.

Like having a member auction show up to the right here: http://www.vbulletin-faq.com/forum/auctionads.php

Oh - you mean like a right column sidebar?

There is a vB.org hack for that

You can put whatever you want in the column and it appears on all vB pages. Thats how I have it set up on my Mopar Forum (http://www.forabodiesonly.com/mopar/)

BUT --- I strongly suggest you do the rewrite also. Its invisible to the members, why shouldnt you make a few bucks off the members ebay postings?

hehe... I'm still not sure you follow.

I'm wondering if there is the possibility of increasing the odds of auctionads ads showing from ebay that have accounts on my forum and at Ebay. Like if I was selling my vB license or something applicable to vb-faq, then having my ad show up here, in your ads.

I know that my auction by default has the luck of the draw for showing up here, but I'm curious so to whether or not those odds could be increased.

They can be by the publisher, not by the seller.

You can see how to do that here: http://www.vbulletin-faq.com/forum/showthread.php?t=8834

What you could do is approach a forum or site owner and ask them to sign up and using the code that pushes your auctions (see above) -- maybe you'll have to pay him a little extra but it could work out.

Oh yes, that's certainly (kind of) what I was looking for! I didn't think of it as a "search feature" so it would have been a while before I caught it on my own. Thanks, and sorry I was not clearer (all this buyer, seller, auction, and even ads are new to me).

Thanks again!

Thats ok - thats how we get questions answered. Maybe the next guy can read this post and learn from it.
