We decided to try a different approach for a change (although it's not the first time - Chris M was appointed after applications were invited).

You have a while to wait yet. :)

Disappointing comments in here though :(

Aw Paul, don't take us seriously! You have to know by now, that we're just kidding. My apologies if they were out of line :(

I would imagine these comments would disappoint you Paul, and though as Peggy says, you should not take them literally however, these are most certainly the thoughts and opinions of some vB users of some of the vB staff members.

It's not what you are that counts when online, it's what you appear to be. Perception is reality. Very often, some of the vB staff come across as very rude and arrogant and seem to forget that the people they are talking to are their clients.

Re my comments above, well if I am honest I guess I shouldn't have made them as they only really apply to some vB dot com staff - though there are a few of the staff I elude to who make appearances on vB dot org too.

Personally, when I submit support tickets, I have always received good, professional service, on the forums too most of the time - but for some posts I see, well that's totally another story and is one that disappoints me enormously.

So in summary Paul if I have offended you re my comments, I apologise, but I genuinely hope they will at least be 'listened' to. Some vB staff are simply way out of line in their posts.

Ive never had issues with vb.org staff. I have had a few with vB.com people though. Which is why I wouldnt expect to be accepted at vb.org for any staff postion.

I do have to say this. I was reading through one hack thread the other night on vb.org. It was one of Paul's hacks. I was more than impressed by your patience Paul. You explained things that had little to do with the hack, and even someone got snippy with you, you kept your cool.

Good job. Your a credit to vB.

I've reread the thread a couple of times just to make sure - I can't see anything particularly malicious.

I found myself genuinely wondering about the "motivation" question. I'm not saying it's not a valid question. I'm saying it's tougher than it looks when you get down to brass tacks.

There has to be a lot of prestige and recognition that goes with the position and I'm just wondering how many people would be honest enough to say that's their main motivation in applying. How many good people are going to recognise that and not make an application (whilst they are in reality available) as a result! And arguably those could well be the best candidates.

It reminds me of a beauty pageant question like "Why do you want to be Miss Universe?"
The right answer is "To help bring peace to the world" (wave and smile).
The real reason?

It's a catch 22.

Anyway, in all seriousness - Paul - No slight intended, and I sincerely hope you get the right people. It benefits us all.

Sorry guys (& gals), I guess I wasn't clear in what I meant - I was disappointed that you had the views you had (of any of our staff) not that I was offended by any of the comments. Hope that clears that up. JFYI, getting back to the topic, we now have 45 applications.
