Thanks Fireproof 06-15-2007, 01:55 PM ive already found out that VB 3.6 already has this option. Thanks Where do you find that option? Peggy 06-15-2007, 03:22 PM I don't remember where I found it, but I turned it off on my forum. It's irritating. Dave A 06-16-2007, 12:44 AM Peggy, it might have been part of the vBSEO options. I'm pretty sure it's not part of standard vB. Mike54 06-16-2007, 06:23 AM I think you are correct Dave. It's a vBSEO option. I think there is a hack available on vB.org that will display those links, so if you're interested, you might look across there. popowich 06-16-2007, 12:45 PM I use this product (http://www.vbulletin.org/forum/showthread.php?t=134102) for create the footer links. Between products like that and the tips here, I've never seen the need to purchase VB SEO. -Raymond Fireproof 06-16-2007, 05:31 PM I use this product (http://www.wnypoker.com/gallery/poppabill) for create the footer links. Copy/paste on a beer day error. :) -Raymond Peggy 06-16-2007, 06:25 PM LOL - you're funny Ray :) popowich 06-16-2007, 06:26 PM It really was the beer. ;) -Ray Mike54 06-16-2007, 06:29 PM I wasn't going to mention it, as the image of Pamela and her twin sister were welcome. ;) Fireproof 06-16-2007, 08:06 PM LOL at the Ray and Mike! :D Speaking of footer links like that - does it really help SEO if you already have sitemaps generated and submitted to Google and Yahoo daily (via vbSEO Sitemap Generator)? I "heard" that it's supposed to help the spiders crawl the site better, but then I thought the sitemaps do that. Of course, I'm a big NOOOOB, so please edumacate me! Peggy 06-16-2007, 08:56 PM I don't know about the footer links. I only have experience with the sitemap generator. Its main function is to automatically submit a new sitemap to yahoo and google, daily, if even one new post is made on your forum, which in turn the spiders crawl. Fireproof 06-16-2007, 09:19 PM I don't know about the footer links. I only have experience with the sitemap generator. Its main function is to automatically submit a new sitemap to yahoo and google, daily, if even one new post is made on your forum, which in turn the spiders crawl. Yep! I'm clear on that one. So if the sitemap is providing "guidance", then I am wondering about the value-add of the footer links too. ;) Maybe someone else can help us. :D  Mike54 06-17-2007, 05:12 AM The way I see it, it is just more spider food. Sure, you're submitting sitemaps to Google and Yahoo, but what of all the other search engines? Do you not want to make your site "attractive" to them as well? Fireproof 06-17-2007, 08:51 AM "Spider food." I love it. That's a good way to think about it - thanks! I'll look into some forum footers. ;) Dave A 06-18-2007, 12:46 AM Whoah there. Those links are way important for a totally different reason. One of the issues is the depth of any page from the home page - how many clicks from homepage to the target page. Those links "flatten" the site helping to make sure all your important pages (content) is accessible within 2 or 3 clicks. Mike54 06-18-2007, 05:06 AM Whoah there. Those links are way important for a totally different reason. Yes, you are absolutely right. Fireproof 06-18-2007, 06:20 AM Thanks Dave and Mike! :thanks: Fireproof 06-21-2007, 01:39 PM IN this case - by manually creating the links. So did you just create a basic link to each of your main forum pages? Is there anything else I'm missing, because I want to do the same thing. Dave A 06-21-2007, 02:26 PM So did you just create a basic link to each of your main forum pages? Is there anything else I'm missing, because I want to do the same thing. That does it - with numbers in the anchor text to keep space usage down. You can put the XHTML code into the footer template - or there's that copyright notice box in the Admin CP which is also really handy for this sort of thing. You just put in a <BR /> tag to start a new line and it centres it, sizes it... Fireproof 06-21-2007, 03:47 PM Easy enough. Okay - got it. Very cool! thanks so much! | |
