I notice link at the bottom of this forum, obviously they are forum
posts... 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, etc...

How is this setup?

I don't remember where I found it, but I turned it off on my forum. It's irritating.

Peggy, it might have been part of the vBSEO options. I'm pretty sure it's not part of standard vB.

I think there is a hack available on vB.org that will display those links, so if you're interested, you might look across there.

I use this product (http://www.vbulletin.org/forum/showthread.php?t=134102) for create the footer links.

Between products like that and the tips here, I've never seen the need to purchase VB SEO.

Speaking of footer links like that - does it really help SEO if you already have sitemaps generated and submitted to Google and Yahoo daily (via vbSEO Sitemap Generator)?

I "heard" that it's supposed to help the spiders crawl the site better, but then I thought the sitemaps do that.

Of course, I'm a big NOOOOB, so please edumacate me! :confused:

Yep! I'm clear on that one. So if the sitemap is providing "guidance", then I am wondering about the value-add of the footer links too. ;) Maybe someone else can help us. :D

The way I see it, it is just more spider food. Sure, you're submitting sitemaps to Google and Yahoo, but what of all the other search engines? Do you not want to make your site "attractive" to them as well?

Whoah there. Those links are way important for a totally different reason.

One of the issues is the depth of any page from the home page - how many clicks from homepage to the target page. Those links "flatten" the site helping to make sure all your important pages (content) is accessible within 2 or 3 clicks.

That does it - with numbers in the anchor text to keep space usage down.

You can put the XHTML code into the footer template - or there's that copyright notice box in the Admin CP which is also really handy for this sort of thing. You just put in a <BR /> tag to start a new line and it centres it, sizes it...

Easy enough.
