Long Island Drag Racing is a forum by Long Island Drag Racers, for Long Island Drag Racers.
There's a company called Top Gun that has been talking about building a new track on Long Island for the last few years. Recently they shifted their focus and took down the forum they had on their web site. When that happened, I had a domain name that I wasn't using (lidragracing.com), so I threw vBulletin up on it and told everybody from the old site about the new site. Pretty much the whole crowd followed.
Because I put it up quick, it was a bone-stock vBulletin install at first. I asked Peggy to customize one of her skins for the site and added a couple of hacks. What I've got installed now is:
EZ Archive Ad System - because ads in the archive are good
HELLCATs Realtime Page Compressor - to speed it up a little bit
Members who have visited the forum - cuz I like how it looks
Ultimate Side Columns - to easily add a side column with ads on forumhome
vBadvanced CMPS - I'm not sure why I put this in...
vBPicGallery - cuz pictures are good
vBSEO :: Sitemap Generator - to let the search engines know what's going on
Plus I've got a couple of my own hacks and modifications installed...
The site has been running for only a few weeks, and it has 47 members with 440 posts. A lot of the members go to local car shows and hand out flyers to let other people know about the site, and we're starting to see an uptick in traffic.
This site should win the Featured Forum contest because it's the best damn Long Island Drag Racing forum around. And it's growing every day!
