I was wondering if products like vbadvanced link directory help with page rank?

I know to build a good page rank you can list yourself into directories such as dmoz, yahoo etc. Does it also work for vbulletin type link directories?

I'm not sure that it helps with your PR - unless you require a recip link, and people are willing to submit, of course. That way you have a backlink.

My site has enough PR that I don't require a recip link.

so regarding backlinks, does it matter where on the site they appear??

A link is a link is a link...at least in the end.

Don't worry about page rank at all, as it's not a very good indication of link quality.

There are several DMOZ listings that have been there for years that still have a PR0 so DMOZ and all it's clones did little or nothing to help it along.

Other directories rarely show up as a backlink in google, and likely due to duplicate content.

I'd focus on things that can potentially bring in new traffic rather then little pips on a green bar.

Try to get your members to ad your site to their blog rolls.
Encourage your members to BLOG about the discussions on the forum (good and bad)
Find a few that post on other forums and ask that they put your link in their sig.
Find FANTASTIC threads and posts and ask the members that posted them if you can tweak out the post & submit it as an article to article directories. Link back to the thread it came from for "further discussion"You'll likely find that 3 members that blog about your site is worth more then 30 directory submissions...as people actually visit blogs.

However, to specifically answer your question, yes, I think that the vBa Links Directory counts at least as much as any other directory links...possibly even more as less people use it and it's not a clone of every other directory out there.

Just keep in mind while submitting, vary both your anchor text and your descriptions. You'll find that it get's filtered less for being duplicate!

I agree that one should not worry about PR - but don't ignore or discount it either. Many website owners won't exchange links with no/low PR sites.

Additionally, when you sign up with sites such as LinkWorth, TextAds, etc, people/companies looking to publish their ads look for mid/high PR sites, very rarely no/low PR sites.

Something to think about...

Yes, PR does have it's place, especially if you are selling links.

Though when buying links, look at the big picture. A site with a PR2 and LOTS of traffic is likely a better place to get a link from then a PR5 with no traffic...unless of course you are trying to get more PR, but meh... I don't think I want that debate ;)

Hi,

I think too that PR is result of number of backlinks for your site.

So, you should not worry about PR because if you collect more and more backlinks for your site then you will get sure PR.

About directory submission, generally most of peoples use directory submission for generating only backlinks for his site and those backlinks will help his site to increase PR.

But keep in mind that you have to get backlinks from most appropriate categories because if theme are different than your site then backlinks are valueless for you.

Thanks :)

Agreed. The best backlinks are from sites that are relevant to yours.

Even it is PR 0 as long as the link is relevant you can get it. :D

What is your point here, cooluks? Maybe I'm just thick, but I cannot sort what you're trying to say.

What I mean is even the directory is PR 0 it can help. Just submit it to the right category.

Hi,
that's just one of the steps I've heard of that could work towards improving page rank of a site.
