Dont you think vBulletin staff should make a kinda DEMO board for designers.

-in the admincp the only thing you could change would be styles.
-no post can be made; no registers
-it will have default "preview post, thread etc"

So as this cant act asforum it could be offered for free to designers.

That's an excellent idea semann. But it would mean purchasing another vB license wouldn't it?

no... thats exactly the whole idea of it.
Its free download for designers it doesnt have forum functionalities is just like a "canvas"

I didn't get your idea at first, but now I do. I dunno if they would do it, but it would be cool in any event.

I don't agree actually. I've been working on my first skin and now realise that if you are designing a complex skin, especially if it requires some code modifications beyond just colours, footers and headings, then you need to have full forum functionality in order to test everything properly.

A default post may just be some text, but this doesnt show you what a post containing code will look like, or how sigs can be presented, for example. For a demo to have sufficient functionality for designing with it needs to be able to show the usercp and many of the other functions. To go through and disable these so the demo could not operate as a functioning forum would require a lot of work from the devs and ongoing work with keeping it updated to each new version.

It seems to me that most people designing skins are selling them, so the cost of a license to have a local, fully-functional copy is pretty insignificant.

at one time you could get a demo for 15 days or something..was 2 years ago.. maybe it's IPB that I'm thinking of

nope vb = no demo boards. We'd have to purchase a license

Elsie:

regardless, vBulletin doesn't sell that kind of forum, and they don't provide demo forums

the only demo lasts only 24 hours and i think you cant add styles

I'm thinking about selling some of my photography equipment to raise $ for an additional license.
