vBulletin 3.6.8

vBulletin 3.6.8 is a maintenance release to improve the stability of vBulletin as well as providing required compatibility for the vBulletin Blog addon. The Blog therefore will require 3.6.8 as a minimum to function.

Changed files and mandatory template changes are listed below.

We have also fixed various bugs since vBulletin 3.6.7 was released, these fixes include:
22080: Internet Explorer locks up on forumhome (http://www.vbulletin.com/forum/project.php?issueid=22080)
22260: Quick Reply causes errors with PHP 5.0.5 (http://www.vbulletin.com/forum/project.php?issueid=22260)
22242: Show edited by appearing incorrectly (http://www.vbulletin.com/forum/project.php?issueid=22242)
22289: Email activation can lead to the wrong usergroup being selected (http://www.vbulletin.com/forum/project.php?issueid=22289)
22667: Suspected file versions identifies addons incorrectly (http://www.vbulletin.com/forum/project.php?issueid=22667)
22293: Support for Safari 3.0 on Windows (http://www.vbulletin.com/forum/project.php?issueid=22293)
See other bugs fixed in 3.6... (http://www.vbulletin.com/forum/project.php?do=issuelist&projectid=6&issuetypeid=bug&appliesversionid=g7&issuestatusid=4)Upgrading from Previous Versions

3.6.8 is a maintenance release and we recommend that all customers upgrade to benefit from many bug fixes and stability improvements.

No patch or plugin is available to bring previous versions up to 3.6.8 without a full upgrade, as the various changes to implement all the bug fixes represent a large number of changes. To get the fixes from 3.6.8 onto your own board, you must perform a full upgrade.

Full instructions for upgrading vBulletin are available here. (http://www.vbulletin.com/docs/html/upgrade)

PHP and MySQL Requirements

Please note that vBulletin 3.6.x requires at least PHP 4.3.3 and MySQL 4.0.16 or later.

End of Life for PHP 4 announced

The PHP group recently announced (http://www.php.net/index.php#2007-07-13-1) that support for PHP 4 will end on December 31st, this means there will be no security updates or bug fixes for PHP 4 after this point. We seriously recommend that you consider upgrading to the latest version of PHP (5.2.3) and MySQL (5.0.45). vBulletin 3.6.8 supports both of these without any problems, though you may need to disable strict mode for MySQL, see here (http://www.vbulletin.com/docs/html/editconfig) on how to enable 'force_sql_mode'.

Note: We will continue to support PHP 4 in our currently released versions.

Download vBulletin 3.6.8

As usual, vBulletin 3.6.8 is available for all customers with valid, active licenses to download from the vBulletin Members' Area.

MAN O MAN, im finally done upgrading NY Sports 365. I dont think im going to upgrade THE LBC right now, seeing most of those template edits arent needed, and its just a maintenance fix.

What do you guys think?

This is a bug-fix upgrade and should absolutely be done, imo.

Trust me, I am not looking forward to upgrading my forum... 45 skins to edit?
Y'all have nothing to bitch about ;)

Most of the bugs arent that significant and most boards can live without them....IMO

I don't agree. I think that any known bugs should be fixed when a fix is provided.
If it's serious enough for the developers to believe that a fix is needed - and in this case, several fixes - then I think people should take it seriously and do the upgrade. They didn't provide it for their own good health :)

difference of opinions (like i stated earlier, those bugs just dont seem like they are important enough for an upgrade TO ME...lol).....and a company will have to keep putting out fixes, otherwise how would they get people to resubscribe...

Upgraded Themes by Design... 93 templates to take care of. What a PITA.
But a necessary PITA.

93?? You're better than me, I would've thrown my computer out the window!:hide: :D

You're sight is a styles site so it's different but I keep my boards to 1 style, plus the default.. I learned the hard way, it's a major PITA when upgrading all those hacks to rework in. Not for me

The only reason there weren't 101 templates is because you updated the coffee theme on your site and sent me the .xml file. lol

:thanks:

This may sound a bit stupid ..... but here is my dilemma:

OK so I upgraded to 3.6.8, but the style I have was designed for 3.6.0 (not by me), so obviously there are 10 templates to revert. I was a bit lucky since till 3.6.5 they didnt need reverting or reverting didnt really hurt me. I reverted and it broke => work to be done.

This is where I am stuck! The author cannot be contacted, I have tried already, so I will have to work on my own.

How do I edit the templates, ok I used winmerge to open the new default-style templates and my templates and there are huge differences. Question is what to look far to add/delete in my styles' templates?

Any help/guidance will be greatly appreciated.

Peggy

redraider - you just may have to look for another skin. vB version 3.6.6 gave us quite a few mandatory template edits that you probably haven't done, and 3.6.7 introduced a few new images that you don't have. IF you can't get ahold of the designer (he's obviously not interested in upgrading this style since he quit at 3.6.0), I'd say you're pretty much out of luck on that.

As far as reverting - I think your best bet is going to be to hit the revert link on those templates, and manually re-add all the template edits for any mods/hacks you've installed.

Thanks peggy ....

I think I would go for a try to see if I can work it out. I love this skin (scorechase.com)

Do you think its a good idea to use winmerge and do a comparison of the default-vbulletin skin with my skin and then merge the differences? or is there a better way?

Peggy

red, I've never used winmerge, but I have read on the release discussion thread at vb.com that a few other people do use it and it works great.

Could you tell me exactly what this application does, please?

Here (http://winmerge.org/) you go Pegs.

Peggy

Thanks babe.

So IT will merge the templates FOR you? Am I reading that correctly?

redraider

winmerge (open source) software can be a great help.

You can two files side by side and compare the differences between them, and copy the "differentiating" text between the files to make them similar. Its easy to use.

Ah so it does the same thing as the template compare feature in the acp.
Now if it merged them for you, I'd be jumpin' on that one.

So far it seemed to have worked fine on FORUMDISPLAY and FORUMHOME ..... 5 more to go .... keeping my fingers crossed

redraider

I think I figured it out

redraider

Ok finally I completed the merge, and the forums dont look damaged - not so far.

Here is a question, if someone can help
- How do I check if my forums are fine now?, the templates which needed reverting/merging are:
FORUMHOME
FORUMDISPLAY
footer
editpost
edit_toolbar_on
SHOWTHREAD
navbar
postbit
forumhome_forumbit_level1_nopost

- How do I find out whether these newly merged templates I have satisfy the vb368 design criteria :witsend:

- Could template edits cause any security vulnerabilities :badpc:

Someone?
