What is the site about (theme)?
Jediforum is obviously based around the interesting genre that is Star Wars. Developed just over a month ago we have generated a steady flow of new members who have found us on some of the major search engines. With a fantastic theme and a well implemented usergroup system we hope to expand and cater for all the needs of our crazy Star Wars users.
How did your forum get started / Why did you start it?
Well this is a crazy story! I was surfing the internet searching for domains to buy and came across a small listing at the bottom of a strange whois website. The listing was advertising some domains that where on sedo.co.uk at the time. Without really thinking I placed a bid of $100 for Jediforum.com as after 15mins research I thought that there was enough room to launch a site like this. Anyways, I offered $100 which was counter offered by the owner, $18,000. I wasn't willing to pay that high amount so simply forgot about the listing. Months past and I finally read one of the emails sedo was sending me (I get them more or less every day). In the email it explained that the owner of jediforum had been counter offering me every two weeks for the past 4months, lowering his price every two weeks. By this time he was down to about $300 (his thrid final counter offer). Me being me place another offer in at $100 (yes the same amount I had offered 4months previously) which to my shock he accepted.
Excitement set in and also some panic as I had zero cash at the time (monthly phone bills and just bought my first car). Overtime paid off and the domain was mine!
3days later and about 4 hours sleep the site was ready!
JediForum was born.
What hacks do you have installed and what do they do?
vbSEO - SEO obviously! Works really well for us aswell!!
vbCredits - Superb mod that awards "Cash" for user activity. www.vbcredits.com - well worth looking into, the support is unrivaled.
Custom usergroup mod - splits new users into either the "Jedi" group or the "Sith" group, each having a custom forum each and soon more features will be implemented.
vbAdvanced - Frontpage news and info. Basic but works well!
What makes your site unique?
Well we are dedicated, have a create useable design and are constantly looking to invest in anything that will benefit us. We are implementing a Photo Gallery and a Blog/Article system that will really push our site to the forefront of the Star Wars scene.
Tell us about your members, what makes them special?
Our members are great, small in numbers but big in interest. We have steady activity all during the day and always have someone surfing around as a guest. We are new and really trying to push ourselves into the limelight. Our members range in age from as low as 11 all the way up to late thirties. Due to the Star Wars films stretching out over so many years the age range of the fans is massive and as such conversion is always different and this brings out some quality comments and quotes!
Why should your forum win this contest?
Because you think it is worth it. If you think our forum is to small or your dislike it then say so. We love having the opportunity to get feedback and do not enter into these events with the thought of winning. All forums take time to build and it takes a lot of love to craft a large forum that works well. All sites entered are sure to be worthy of winning in their own way.
Although JediForum is obviously the best! Vote us!!
Many thanks,
Luke Daly
