Additional Usergroups

Hi, just in need of a point in the right direction.
I've just setup an additional usergroup with enhanced permissions of certain areas of the forum over standard users. I was under the impression that if I select this as an additional usergoup for an individual, they would inherit said permissions of that group but it doesnt seem to be working.

Here's what I mean:
Member 1 is of Primary Usergroup A that lets him access all areas of the board apart from the "Special" section.
I've created Usergroup B which allows all members of this group to access the "Special Section"

Member one's Primary usergroup is A and I have selected his additional usergroup B, but he still cannot access the Special Section. It only seems to work if I make him a Primary member of Usergroup B which I don't want to do. I have a few member levels and I want some but not all of them to have access rights of Usergroup B, without seeting the rights globally.

Does that make any sense?

It makes sense. I detest using secondary usergroups, they always screw up.
What you should do is use the promotion method.

Member 1 is in usergroup A that has access to all board except special section.
Usergroup B has all the same access plus the special section.

So set up a promotion based on whatever criteria that most closely matches your needs, and once members of usergroup A meet that criteria they're automatically promoted to usergroup B.

Simple and easy peasy. :D

Thansk for that peggy but I don't think it does what I want it to as I will simply be selecting individuals to access the special area myself - hand picking them if you like and the promotion criteria isn't suitable for this.
Are secondary usergroups often a problem then? My first attempt at trying to use one. :(

If you are handpicking a select group, then use the individual permission access masking for each member you select. It can be a pain when dealing with large numbers, but if this is going to to be a small group, then it will let you do what you want.
