Not as great as the reviews made it out to be. I read the good reviews of this book on this site, and those reviews were what prompted me to buy the book. However, I now wish I hadn't paid so much attention to the reviews because I found the book to be a big disappointment. The writing style wasn't that great and I was very discouraged to see that the author (a person who holds himself up to be an example of a righteous man who is raising his children to be godly) is so judgmental of others. The section where he's talking about how most other children aren't deemed worthy to play with his children was very off-putting and not my idea of a Christian attitude. The Bible teaches love, tolerance and forgiveness, and this book seems to be largely about narrow mindedly judging others. I wish I hadn't wasted my money on this book.
Fun read! Rick has a down-home way of writing. Makes you feel like you're visiting the family. There were quite a few typos/errors and grammatical mistakes, but if you can look past them, it was a nice short book about a modern-day large family.
Funny look inside this great family This book was really a fun read. For parents (especially dads) who hope to have a big family, it's really great to get this peak inside and hear from a man who's walking the walk. There aren't a lot of role models for Christian dads these days, but Rick Boyer is definitley on the list.
Challenging Modern American Assumptions of Family This book is a fantastic read overall, though I would rather have seen more theological development and less emphasis on the author's personal journey of faith and foibles. Generally speaking, the book is an uplifting look at trusting God to plan and provide for children. The real miracle is that he found the time to write a book while running his own business and raising twelve kids! :)
Godly parenting advice. Rick and Marilyn certainly encouraged me!!! As the mother of seven beautiful blessings from God, I am thankful for the Godly example put forth by this couple. The book is entertaining and informative! It's an "I don't want to put it down until I'm finished" type of book. Easy reading. Rick certainly has a way with words (and children). This book is a must for any married couple. It will give you a whole new attitude toward children and the blessing that they are.
