Pretty good - not perfect I'll start off by saying that I learned how to use Final Cut Express using this training and recommend it. I have had previous experience with video editing, mainly Studio 8 and iMovie. But FCE is significantly different and has a steeper learning curve, so I felt I needed the training (and it turns out that I definitely did - I would have been lost otherwise).
My main issue with the product is that I wish it had a quick-start, project-based section where it would take you through a simple project start to finish. Instead, it is organized by type of task, which generally goes in the order of a project, but it's not the same. What I'd like to see is it starting with a 10 minute video clip, then edit it, then add music, then edit some more, then output for viewing... all with the same clip, all in order. This could be a quick tutorial - not to replace the more in depth stuff, but allow the user to quickly get the feel of the product and maybe produce a quick video, then move on to the more in-depth training.
My other comment is that I would also like to see them allow the user to copy the application onto their hard drive so you can run it from there if you so choose. The way they currently have it, you can only run it from the DVD, so your drive is constantly starting and stopping, which gets annoying after while and causes the training to hesitate while the disk spins up.
Overall it's a good training tool but could be great with the modifications I mention above.
FCE HD Truly Made Easy All of us learn via multiple modalities, this tutorial DVD provides an excellent visual learning method which is far more effective than the typical screen shots in books. It is exceptional when combined with Tom B's book.
I started with the DVD for a quick overview of FCE HD...I was a first time user of FCE HD and Mac. Then I moved on to the book (and it's project DVD)and supported my use again with the tutorial DVD.
I took a risk to buy both the tutorial DVD and the book....it wasn't clear if it would be redundant or truly helpful. I am very pleased that I bought both.
Final Cut Express Made Easy: Class on Demand Training for Final Cut Express HD Good, it explain in detail, and take you step by step.
