IM thinking like a link thats on the homepage thats allways there.
When someone says they want permalink urls on their site - wth are they referring to?
Can anyone give me an example of a permalink?

hmmmm... that doesn't sound right, for some reason. But then, I don't even know what the permalink is...![]()

permalink i think refer's to the original link, not a re-written one, like this thread is
http://www.talkdelaware.com/showthread.php?t=9084 (not real)
rewritten with seo software could be
http://www.talkdelaware.com/why-we-n...19.html?t=2119
Maybe crawlable vs script generated?
For example, I've got a headlines page full of links to latest news content - but it's generated by scripts. Robots don't execute links, therefor they don't see the URLs.
He's got it right. When you first get vB they just use numbers and showthread.php?t-9084.. now if some one searched for that GREAT. But no one does.
You make a thread called Bonds breaks HR record - in your url it could say... yoursite.com/bonds-breaks-record and that is a realistic search some one my try.
ahHA now I understand. Thanks browie![]()

So..Is it possible or not..?? How..?
Wikipedia says, "A permalink is a URL that points to a specific blogging entry even after the entry has passed from the front page into the blog archives"
vbSEO has a program that rewrites the URL of vbulletin forums in this manner for better SEO.
I'm almost ready to sell my vBSEO license.

Or, you can get that for free from Zoints.
I don't like Zoints, sorry. Now that Dave has pulled out, I don't see it going much of anywhere. jmo.

30 second sales pitch? Practically the same thing as vbSEO but $150 cheaper!
This gives you a good idea. I'm using it and like it:

And the "value" of rewritten URLs (from a search engine standpoint - especially with vBulletin) is hotly debated, so I wouldn't state it as fact.![]()
exactly. Case in point -
I have vbseo on one of my sites - Top vB. I did quite a bit of SEO work in addition to vbseo.
On the other site, Themes by Design, I have done nothing but good old fashioned SEO work, and have worked hard at it.
I have the same PR on TBD as on Top vB - but 5 times the traffic.
I just closed Top vB a few weeks ago, moved all my business to TBD. So to me, it's obvious that plain ol' SEO, lots of time and hard work, brings much better results.

Great case study there Peggy! Not many people have the chance to try both methods like that. I'm glad to see that your hardwork on SEO paid off - especially the traffic! That's compelling!!
Cool stuff.
By the way - I went to TBD to see how much you charge for custom-work - on the home page I clicked the third link on the left "Custom Forum Skins" and was sent to an invalid page.
How do you handle pricing custom skin work?
hmmm I need to fix that link, thanks for telling me.
Here's the link I have on the forum - http://www.themesbydesign.net/forums...stom_vb_themes
