    Promoting Your Site...

How much time do you put into promoting your site, i.e. advertising, listing, getting backlinks, etc.

Sure we all get excited about starting a new site, filling it with content, etc.
But there comes the time that you have to get the word out, to attract new members, etc.

So, c'mon be honest and spill it...

Does making the site better count as promotion?

Adding new features to keep the site "fresh", participating in the site, etc?

Is that a separate "How much time do you spend working on your site?" poll?

I voted 1-3 hours a week, though honestly I was torn between 1 hour & people join by the dozens *smirk*

Though as of late I've been feeling more like picking the last one, which has me pondering harder and harder on the ins and outs of starting a street team to help promote the site so I can just site back with my fancy colored name and let things fall into place...

Nope, I'm talking about promoting your forum outside of your forum.

When I first started my forum, I was always doing something promotional -- I quickly lost steam. Now a days, I submit to 1 or 2 directories a week, and tweak settings here and there. I know, I know I should be doing more.

I do spend alot of time between all my sites doing promotion but my main forum has been put on the back burner as for as promotion.

If I see one more catchpa image (during directory submission), I'm gonna scream!!

1-3 hours, could be more. All i do is go on the biggest Delaware forum and post post post with a sig link. If the topic calls for it or i have pics to show, i post links to my site. The forum is huge and there is 0 moderation so its TOO easy.

other then that, business cards, word-of-mouth, etc. although i am about to "adopt a highway" in my area. You get a sign with the name of your biz on a major highway, all you do is go out and collect trash every now and then. PERFECT advertising for my site.

I currently spend well over 1-3 hours a week since I just started InnerFireOnline.com and since its content is entertainment based, the market is pretty saturated. I'm constantly seeking new ways to get people interested.

We work tirelessly promoting our website. I basically have no life now because I spend almost all my free time researching, and implementing new things to make our website the best it can be.
