vBulletin Forum Basics

vBulletin Forum Basics

vBulletin is a powerful, scalable and fully customizable forums package for your web site. It has been written using the Web's quickest-growing scripting language; PHP, and is complemented with a highly efficient and ultra fast back-end database engine built using MySQL.

What does that all mean? Simply that, in this writer's opinion, vBulletin is the best forum software package availalable.

Why do I say this? Here are just a few of the advantages I have found:

  • vBulletin is search engine friendly. Search Engine spiders have no problem crawling the pages and many times do very well in the search engine ranking positions (SERPS);
  • vBulletin is a commonly used forum software so many users and potential users are familiar with it and how to use it;
  • vBulletin forum software is 'user friendly' and easy for new members to learn to use;
  • The vBulletin administrator control panel is comprehensive and easy to understand, thus those new to forum administration will have an easier time learning how to control and get the most out of their software package;
  • vBulletin forum pages are generated and displayed by use of templates that run on simple HTML programming, making it easy to modify the loook and feel of your website;
  • Many thousands of 'hacks', which are legal software modifications and additions, are available to all vBulletin forum licencees;
  • vBulletin is a great software to grow with. It can handle a small or new community with ease, and will easily handle your needs as your community grows. Some vBulletin communities have many thousands of members and the software manages the traffic easily;

The only downside that I have become aware of is that you have to pay for vBulletin. It is not free. There are other forum software packages out there that are free such as PHPBB and SMF, but in my opinion dont offer the power or features as vBulletin does.
